Keitaro got up, wondering what the odd feeling of wrongness was.
He absently scratched Shinobu behind the ear, rewarded with sleepy purr and a mumbled "sempai".
Everything looked fine as he surveyed the place.
He was the proud owner of the Hinata Hotel/Spa, third year university ronin, Keitaro Urashima. He was also the proud owner of the Hinata House's claim to fame - the Hinata Catgirls.
Shinobu was so nice and sweet that she was a local favorite. Some of the local merchants were just so overcome by her Aura Of WAFF that she got special deals from some and left others just pleasantly smiling whenever she walked by.
There was also the fairly popular Mitsune. For far different reasons to be sure. That was right, he had to put extra soundproofing in her room today - all that yowling annoyed some of the other guests.
Mutsumi and Naru. Mutsumi overcame her tendency to die at odd times and clumsiness by being the bouncy and cheerful catgirl. Naru the somewhat more tempremental counterpart. Less ditzy and more prone to knock a forward customer in the teeth.
Motoko and her sister. Bodyguard catgirls. Sometimes the customers got a little rambunctious, at which point the bokken came out and someone was going to get hurt.
Su. The foreign exchange student and gadgeteer. Like Sarah, she wasn't a real catgirl (neither had attended the masquerade) - they just wore fake ears and tails to fit in better when they were at the hotel.
And of course, "Aunt" Haruka. Not a catgirl either, but very handy with them.
Stepping over the sleeping forms of Mutsumi and Naru, Keitaro tried to figure out what was giving him that "displaced" feeling.
