A Rose at Hogwarts - Third Year: The Marauder's Map [Episode 33416]

Kodachi yawned as she continued studying the book in her hands. She'd been sleeping none-to-well for the last couple of days. Not the least of the reason because of the fact that she'd had to drudge up certain stories.

She remembered the conversation with the head of her house clearly.

"First things first, Miss Hecate," Professor Snape had begun. "You are an exceptional student. You pay attention in class, study hard and turn in well-researched and at times innovative assignments. You have managed to unite many of your house in a way that has been lacking for many years now."

"Thank you, Professor Snape," Kodachi said respectfully. "It has been hardwork."

"I expect great things from you," Snape continued, looking over her record. "Slytherin needs people such as you."

Kodachi merely nodded, though Snape noted the way she bit her lip and smirked at the realization that she was trying to keep herself from saying something that may have been perceived as impertinent.

"Though I perceive a level of fraternization with the outside houses that I hope to see last of," Snape said. This time, as Kodachi continued to bite down on her lip, he didn't smile. "Potter is a trumped up child with delusions of grandeur. Sooner or later his luck is going to run out. I hope you're not there when it does."

"Yes, sir," Kodachi said.

"Concern yourself with your studies and your house," Snape continued. "We must do what we can to heal the remainder of the rift that you and Malfoy helped form." Kodachi cringed a little at the accusatory tone in Snape's voice. "I do not believe that I need to tell you that retaliation against Malfoy for his behavior shall not be tolerated. Malaghieri has already told both you and the rest of the house about this directive, I believe."

"Yes, sir," Kodachi said. "He told us this."

"Good," Snape said. "Now, for the other reason I called you here. I would like to know something of your past history."

"My...history?" Kodachi repeated hesitantly.

"If you are afraid of revealing your true age," Snape said. "Don't be, the senior faculty are aware of your special circumstances."

"I see..." Kodachi answered. "What...do you want to know?"

"Why are you here?" Snape asked. Kodachi hesitated. "Or, more precisely, what are you running from?"

"What makes you think I'm running from someone?" Kodachi asked.

"Ahh, someone," Snape said. "That narrows things down a bit." Kodachi's mouth twitched. "Miss Hecate, if there is someone that might cause a problem for you, it might cause a problem for the school. I must know the situation."

"He's a muggle," Kodachi said.

"Muggles can still be a problem," Snape said coolly. "A big problem. Who is this person?"

"My...brother," Kodachi said. Snape arched an eyebrow.

"And why would you want to escape your brother?" Snape asked.

****

Kodachi yawned again and shook out her head immediately before catching her foot on a raised section of the floor and her books scattered over the floor.

"Mou..." Kodachi sighed as she reached bent down to start picking them up.

"You're winding me up," an instantly familiar voice said from the classroom next to her. A classroom that should have been empty. She blinked and leaned over to look into the room, seeing Harry with the Weasely twins.

"Oh, are we?" one of them asked, taking out his wand and tapping it to the paper. "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."

Judging by the look on Harry's face something impressive was happening.

"Hang on a moment," one of the twins said.

He turned toward the door, but Kodachi was quickly gone from the door and picking up her books by the time he looked in her direction. She picked up the sound of footsteps on stone and reluctantly completed the process, standing up and walking away, aware that the Weasely was watching her do so.

"It's all right," she heard in a whispered call behind her. "She didn't here anything. What's her dot doing on the map?"

Kodachi blinked and hesitated her step a little. Apparently the Weasely's map had shown them that she was there. That was quite worth investigating, later, when she could arrange some free time.
