"Rosemary, what is going on here?" he asked the police telphone operator.
The blonde haired Rosemary replied, "Henry the janitor is still on vacation. He should be back today."
"Oo Oo. I keep forgetting."
Rosemary wiped her glasses off and put them back on. She signed and looked out the window.
"It's also been a month since Hong Kong Phooey has been seen."
Sitting on top of a filing cabinet, a grey and black striped cat shook his head. A anthromorphic dog walked in and waved at everyone.
"Hello, I'm back."
Rosemary asked, "Did you enjoy your vacation, Henry?"
Henry nodded, "Sure did. I learned a lot of things as well."
Henry went over to the cat and petted him. "So Spot, Keeping out of trouble?"
"Your cat has been a real angel while you left him here," Rosemary replied.
"Oo Oo Henry, I hate to interupt, but...."
Henry shook his head. "I can see what you want done."
Henry grabbed a broom and a wastebasket out of the storage closet. He started cleaning the police station up. A buzz came from the switchboard, forcing Rosemary back to her job.
"City Police. How may I help you? I see. Sarge, there's a bank robbery in progress at the First Union Bank."
"Oo Oo. I'm on my way," Sarg said, as he dashed off.
Rosemary sighed heavily. "It's not going to do any good. If only Hong Kong was still around."
"What's going on?" Henry asked.
"About two days after you left, a crime wave has gripped the city."
'I took a two week vacation to study with that martial arts master, and the city falls apart,' Henry thought. 'It's time to try out my new skills.'
"I'm sure things will look better soon enough," Henry said.
"It's hard to be optimistic, Henry," Rosemary replied and left to fill out paperwork.
"Well Spot, it's time to get back into action."
Spot shook his head and waited.
As Henry backflipped into the filing cabinet kept in the Janitor Closet, he thought, 'My sensei said I had great potential, but I needed to focus more. Now's the time to test it out.'
With a resigned sigh, Spot watched as the bottom drawer closed. Spot waited for the top drawer to get stuck as Henry emerged as Hong Kong Phooey. Instead, the cabinet crackled with lighting and shot into the sky.
Looking up in bewilderment, Spot let out, "Meow?"
Up in the sky, fists punched out from each side of the cabinet. The metal file crumpled like an aluminum can in a crusher, before it exploded. Spot stared in the direction of where something from the cabinet shot towards the earth.
"Meow?"
======================================================================
At the First Union Bank, a gang of eight crooks were busy pulling money out of the vault. One of the crooks pointed at the oncomming police presence.
"Hey look, it's Sarge. So how should we tie him up today?"
Another crook replied, "I don't know. It's getting kind of boring. If that loser super-hero, Hong Kong Fooey, was here though...."
"I know," a third said. "What a joke. At leat he would be entertaining before we tied him up."
Before anyone else could say anything, an object struck the ground near them, cracking the pavement. The crooks and Sarge were shocked to see a large anthromorphic dog in a karate gi staring at them.
Sarge began, "Hong...?"
"...Kong...?" the first crook said.
"...Phooey?" was chorused by all
Gone was the wimpy looking mutt. Now, Hong Kong stood over six feet tall. Hong Kong took up a battle stance and waited.
