It had been nearly a week since Jacob Carter brought his news. Since then, most of SG-1 had been separated, each pursuing their own sources of information to discover what they could about this threat.
Now General Hammond had called them all in to report on what they had learned.
Daniel Jackson was the first to speak.
“Even since the Stargate program was revived, I’ve been scouring through archeological reports to see if any other Goa’uld technology has been unearthed over the years. We’ve investigated a number of possibilities that have turned out to be false leads, but this time we believe I’ve found reports of the real thing.”
“It started with a vague rumor I had heard years ago among the Egyptian departments at some of the universities. A story of an archaeologist whose encounter with a mystical sarcophagus left him seemingly immortal. It was treated as an obvious tall tale by those who heard it, even by me at the time. Based on what we now know it bore further inquiry.”
“It turned out to be a surprisingly hard story to pin down. Part of the problem is that, as far as I can determine, it didn’t involve any of the usual archeological communities. With this new information however, I have now been able to follow the trail to Japan and this man.”
The image of a well-dressed man appeared on the briefing room screen. His long silvery hair completely obscured his left eye.
“Maximillion Pegasus.”
“Not a professional archaeologist, he reportedly dabbled in it when he was young. I asked Sam to look into his background and see what she could turn up.”
Daniel sat as Samantha Carter rose to give her report. “As Daniel said, Mr. Pegasus seems to have only dabbled in archaeology. But what is more significant, he abruptly ‘lost interest’ and turned his attention to creating a children’s card game.”Now scenes of an amphitheater appeared with a large number of children (and more than a few adults) engrossed in playing a card game.
“The thing is, this card game invokes a suspiciously large number of references to obscure ancient Egyptian legends and lore.”
“There is also suggestive ties to his supposed business ‘rival’ Seto Kaiba. Mr. Kaiba has somehow managed to go from being a penniless orphan to heading a multi-billion dollar gaming company even though he is still in high school. Curiously, his gaming business is based mostly on Pegasus’ card games and utilizes holographic technology much more advanced than anything US manufacturers have yet been able to duplicate. Looking it over, I’m not all that sure it is based on any technology known to Earth.”
Again the screen changed, back to the card game tournament. This time the rest of SG-1 noted with interest the holographic effects.
“The intriguing thing is the card game linking the two. ‘Duel Monsters’ its called. It looks harmless enough, but the people who play it tend to develop an unhealthy, cult-like fascination with the game and all its trappings.”
“Like Seth?” Col. O’Neill asked sharply.
Sam nodded. “There are parallels.”
“I’ve checked with Col. Davis, and found out that the NID was already interested in the technology involved in the game and had sent an undercover agent to join the gaming community and participate in the tournaments held for this game. According to Col. Davis, they’ve become a bit worried about his reliability. He still reports, and has delivered some excellent intelligence, but even he’s starting to exhibit a worrying fascination with the game. It was in his latest report that he mentioned there were a number of ancient Egyptian artifacts in Pegasus’ mansion on his private island. Unfortunately he was ejected from the island before he could find out more.”
Sam continued her briefing, filling in the others on what little more she had been able to unearth. It wasn’t much, and only served to further the suspicions of those at the table.
Finally General Hammond called the briefing to an end.
“So, we have reports of Goa’uld interest in Tokyo. We also now have indications of Goa’uld technology, and two primary points of interest.”
He turned to Col O’Neill.
“SG-1 is hereby ordered to travel to Japan and learn all you can about these people. Find out if they have a sarcophagus or any other Goa’uld technology.”
“Yes Sir!”
“You depart for Yokota Air Base in three days. By then I should have the needed authorizations for you to operate in Japan. Dismissed.”

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away…
Seto and Mokuba Kaiba boarded the private helicopter taking them away from Pegasus’ island. Mokuba waved at Yugi and the others as they pulled away.
When the island disappeared behind them, reality seemed to blur for a moment. Mokuba looked up at his brother with more than a bit of worry, only to see Seto’s smile grow even more.
“I’ve done it Mokuba. I’ve finally realized a way to gain a decisive advantage that will allow me to finally defeat Yugi and become the main character!”
“What is it big brother?”
“As you no doubt felt, I have just moved our operations into the realm of fanfiction. For my scheme to work, we needed to entirely leave the realm of parody videos.”
“But Seto, how will this help you defeat Yugi?”
“Its quite simple Mokuba. In fanfiction there are no voice actors.”
“You mean…?”
“Yes. Here Yugi’s alter ego is not voiced by Dan Green.”
