Kami-Sama (benevolently): My daughters, no time for you three to intervene directly--I must employ...other methods to resolve the crisis at hand....
Bryan (inquisitively): But who were they talking about?!?...
At long last, the master scenarist, Gendo Ikari didn't have a backup plan....
The Human Instrumentality Project was nearing completion and he was powerless to stop it!
He was currently alone in his office at his computer terminal, finalizing his affairs before he drank the small shot glass filled with concentrated hemlock extract on his desk....
Alone atop a high cliff, Shinji Ikari looked around him at the beauty of his surroundings....
...And at rocks he would fling himself toward far below....
Though tired of being a part of his father's machinations, Shinji asked himself: Must I run away?...Must I run away?....
Alas, while standing on a chair in an otherwise unoccupided room, the proud Japanese-German warrior girl was fighting a battle she could not win....

Rei Ayanami shuffled over to the edge of the deep end of the school's otherwise deserted swimming pool dressed in a fittingly black, one-piece swimsuit. Minutes earlier, she had handcuffed and shackled herself to a small but heavy boat anchor she now held in her arms....
It was all eminently logical....
The constant taunts of 'Wondergirl' spewing from the profane gullet of Die Uberbitch herself....
The unending cycle of battle, failure, death, and rebirth on orders of The Puppetmaster himself....
Logically, it was obvious she would be better off dead than to put up with the put downs and failure for one more day....
Seated at the kitchen table of her otherwise empty apartment, Misato Katsuragi drank down the last of the can of Yebisu she held in one hand. "It ain't ev'ryday you're indirectly responsible for Second Impact and the death of billions--hic!"
Misato tossed the empty beer can over one shoulder....
...Which almost hit Pen-Pen who looked up at his distressed mistress with great interest and concern from where he stood on the kitchen floor....
Time to get this over with.... thought the young Major to herself as she chambered a single bullet in her gun....
"Riggs you pansy, Katsuragi'll show you how it's done...." murmurred Misato with drunken bravado to no one in particular....
Somewhere else, some other Evangelion character contemplates suicide....
Bryan (breaking the fourth wall): This is a 'darkness to light' thread inspired by this film, filtered through dark satiric sensibilities akin to those found in this film.
