Akane, Akari, Azusa and Ryouga were now married and screwing each other's brains out in a love hotel.

Nodoka, Nabiki, and Genma were all married and Nabiki's honeymoon was about to commence as well.

During the ripples from this, something had to change to make these legal.

In order for it to be legal in Japan, there had to be a reason.

When Ranma moved on to his third set, things got even more widespread.

As Kasumi, Kaori, and Kodachi had this beautiful (back to Western) ceremony - the Great Will accomplished this by altering the past in such a way that polygamy was perfectly legal and acceptable.

The change that occurred was:

• a sect of the Muslim faith that spread through Europe during the Dark Ages, resulting in the four-wives rule being perfectly acceptable (if rare) in Western culture.
• that due to some event in the past (a disease, something other than apes evolving, or another McGuffin) - there are a lot more women born than men. Not a huge gap, but sufficient that the occasional polygamous marriage is just worthy of attention due to the financial considerations.
• as #2, but the gender ratio ends up really skewed. (ie more than 4:1)
• that the Moon Kingdom had polygamous relations, and the whole Moon/Earth Kingdom thing lasted long enough to have an impact on recorded history...
• never mind the mechanics, who did Kasumi+Kaori+Kodachi marry?!
• some other explanation.
