"HIM?!?!"
"What's wrong?" Alpha asked innocently, blinking and wondering at the sudden twitch that Omega had developed.
"You picked..........him." It was not a question.
"Well...yeah. I mean, he meets all the criteria," Alpha shrugged.
Omega stood absolutely rigid, slowly counted to three, and then finally spat out from between clenched teeth, "And just how do you figure THAT?!"
"Well...um..." Alpha floundered, wincing slightly at the barely-supressed anger present in Omega's eyes.
"I'm waiting."
"Well...oh! I know! We were looking for someone who would dare to tread where angels wouldn't dare to go, right? Right?! I can guarantee that angels wouldn't go to most of the places that Genma does!"
Omega's eyebrow twitched had by this point developed into a full-body spasm.
"And...um...er...he is a diplomat! Sorta..."
"Oh?!" Omega prompted, not even noticing as smoke started to rise off the wooden deck beneath his feet.
"Yeah! I mean, he's definitely able to deal with nobility and commoners alike, right? I mean, I can't count the number of times he's robbed or extorted both with absolutely no regard to their social station! See! He doesn't care about class! He's a people person!!"
"And his allies?!" Omega roared, looming over Alpha like an avenging angel of death.
"Well...um...we needed someone who would recruit brave souls to go forth and fight the good fight, right? Well...Genma knows all sorts of people he can send to fight in his stead! I mean, he gets his son to do it all the time, right?! Right?!?!"
"..."
Omega stared at her for a long time before giving a regretful sigh and slumping down in defeat. "I give up...just....pick whoever you want. I don't care any more."
"Omega..?" Alpha asked gently, her voice soft and soothing.
"Yeah, Alpha?"
"It won't be so bad, you'll see. Even if he doesn't work out and the job remains boring, at least he'll still be able to deal with it. I mean, all he really does is sit around the house and play Shogi all day long, anyway. He'd probably adapt to the boredom pretty well, don't you think?"
"..."
It took all of Omega's willpower not to start twitching again.
