Ranma grinned. Maybe he was being a tiny bit selfish buying his own gift, but given the magic and chaos that compounded his life, better safe than sorry.
Stash of money "donated" by several local gangs, check.
Usual yahoo's distracted with rumors of a ring purchase, check.
House empty. Check! Time to go.
He was only nominally surprised to find a panting Nabiki waiting a few blocks from the Dojo. "I'm kinda impressed."
"I'm not one of the usual moron's Ranma."
"Nah, I was expectin ya to see through that. How'd you know I'd come this way?"
"Believe it not, you're a logical person. I'd figured you'd go the opposite direction from the idiots. I just barely beat you here."
"Well since ya went through this much trouble to find me, ya might as well tag along." Ranma said as the pair walked away.
Nothing much was said as the pair continued at a fair pace away from the dojo until Nabiki looked around.
"Hey Ranma... You know those magic stores that pop up and then you can never find them again, once they've screwed up your life?"
"Yeah..." Ranma said, his hackles rising.
"I think some just found us." Nabiki said getting a none too reassuring grip on Ranma's arm. On each corner of the formerly vacant intersection there sat a store, and in a semi darkened alley a robed man sitting near a cart of jewelry and obscure items.
"This is bad." Ranma said. "No good ever comes of places like this."
"Well let's see what we got." Nabiki said walking around the various stores.
"Spells 'r' Us, for all your magical needs and desires." Ranma read a nearby sign with a shudder.
"Over here we got Count D's Exotic Petshop, where you can find the companion of your dreams." Nabiki said.
"This one's called Heartfires, home of love and desire." Ranma shuddered. No good could come of a place like that.
"'Try The Magic Cafe to bring a little magic to your midday meal.' How charming." Nabiki said. "Why do I have this sudden bad vibe about ordering anything with lemon from this place?"
"Excuse me sir," Ranma said blowing the dust off his moldering people skills and approaching the old man and his cart. "I'd like to inquire about your wares."
"I am The Wandering Vizier, and I have a broad selection of mystical artifacts. Tell me your problems, and I may have a solution."
"Thank you Vizier san." Ranma said bowing respectfully. "Perhaps we shall return."
Pulling Nabiki back to the strangely vacant intersection, Ranma said. "I don't think we're getting out of this untouched."
"Well then," Nabiki frowned thoughtfully. "I think we should go..."
