"So that is it, then," a voice said next to her. "Mars has given in completely to Wiseman's influence and has captured three, no, four genies. All hope is lost."
"If that were true," Pluto said, smiling. "You would not be here, milady."
She turned to the genie lord next to her. Serenity was free from an constraints upon her, she could have fixed this quite easily. Unfortunately, she was just a shadow of a possible future, and could do virtually nothing, not being capable of time travel herself.
"In fact," Pluto said. "We are in better straits now than we were before."
"And how do you reason that?" Serenity asked, honestly curious.
"Rei Hino has abdicated his status as Mars," Pluto says. "And given it to Ranma Saotome, a pure soul. Before that, the corrupted Mars left our situation intolerable. Now, we are complete again."
"And if he corrupts his genies as Wiseman has?" Serenity asked. The genie of time smiled.
"Rei Hino is mortal," Pluto said. "And he has forsaken his holy vows. He has neither the favor of the gods nor the powers of a genie, and he has no other training. He can bend their bodies and play them like marionettes, but he cannot even directly touch their minds, much less their souls."
"But how can they bare such tortures..." Serenity said.
"We have always shielded you from such things, milady," Pluto said. "But I and the other genies have all had masters like Mr Hino before. If he weren't so full of his new "power" he would remember that, and would realize that he has thrown away everything. Mercury, Venus and Saturn know how to deal with this, and between the three of them, they can support the newborn."
"It still remains that there is no warrior to give the genies freedom from there prisons," Serenity said. "Other than a perverted, power drunk monster." She sounded saddened, the first Mars had been a close friend for generations after all.
"There is another," Pluto said. "And he is about to find a ring."
