Dr. Ayani stood at the position of attention in front of a desk. Her beautiful features were schooled in a neutral expression. The desk was a large and hand-carved oak desk. Seated behind that desk was one of the most powerful men in Japan. The commander of the Imperial Army. His grizzled and bushy face looked at the Doctor with a stern expression.
“So, the operation failed.”
“General, I accept full responsibility for the failure of the operation. Dr. Ayani looked at the general with a gleeam in her eye. “ However, if you will come with me to the laboratory this evening there is something of interest you might want to see.”
“Something of interest?” The general raised an eyebrow.
Later that night the General and Dr. Ayanokoji arrived at her lab to study her find. Lightning flashed and thunder boomed outside. The room was covered with mechanical equipment and electrical cables. The flashing lightning, shadows, and the almost haphazard layout added a distinctly to the maniacal aura to the laboratory. It looked liked something out of a 1920’s horror movie.
The room's point of interest was in the center of the room. Well lit and lying on steel medical table was an unmoving naked young girl with dark brown hair falling to her neck in a pageboy cut. Her features were pretty and her limbs flawless. Her eyes were closed and she almost looked as if she were sleeping.
“This is…? The general inquired with his left eye suddenly widening open. His expression was taking on a surprised and perhaps a lecherous cast. His attention was focused on the two large…bounties that were placed in front of him for his viewing pleasure
"This is the design Dr. Ayanokoji and myself was working on…Steel Angel number 2...Saki," Dr. Ayanokoji replied in a proud voice.
"Hmmm..interesting design. Especially this" mused the General in an eager tone as his hand hovered over one of Saki’s breasts.
Dr. Ayani scowled at him and he quickly withdrew his hand.
“It was a joke.”. he mumbled.
They turned their attention to the two globes suspended in glass containers in front of them. The globes were colored green and had the reflective glitter of a disco ball. The one on the right was smaller.
"These are the Angel Hearts," said Dr. Ayani, continuing her lecture in a pedantic tone
“They are of different sizes.” observed the General
“We had determined that the one on the right is for Saki.”
"It means that the one on the left is one for a bigger breast... er... Chest" he amended, catching a scowl from Dr. Ayani.
“Can you activate it?” asked the General in a serious tone .
“I will try” replied Dr. Ayami, her face taking on a look of determination.
"To help you, I would like you to introduce you to Dr. Brandon from Great Britain. He collaborated with Dr. Ayanokoji in the initial work on the Steel Angels, and he conducted his own studies after they separated."
A blond haired man stepped out of the shadows . Dr. Ayani noted he wore the same style glasses she did. His features bore those of England’s squirearchy, and he moved in sure steps. He walked foward and firmly shook Dr. Ayani’s hand.
“A pleasure to meet you, Dr. Ayani” spoke Dr. Brandon in a British upper-class accent. I’m sure we will work together splendidly.” Meantime....
