Long Ago, in a Nerima Far Away...
Well, okay, so it wasn't all that long ago, and it wasn't that far away. Still, picture a normal Nerima inhabited by the cast of Ranma 1/2. Occasional property damage, frequent commotions, strange happenings, and much excitement for the cautious observer (the incautious observer usually ended up in the hospital). Picture the sun coming up in a mornig in which nothing out of the ordinary happened. No Jusenkyo transformations, no fights, nothing. Just an ordinary schoolday.
Ranma was feeling remarkably paranoid - and antsy. His pop was laid up with some kind of flu, aggravated by some food poisoning, so he didn't have a morning sparring partner. No splash of water on the way to school, no random challenger, and no all-consuming goal (fight some guy, rescue a girl, regain his strength or manhood, yare yare). It was as if the world had decided to give him a break.
Yeah, right. In his experience, whenever this happened, it meant that something rather big would make up for it - usually at the moment he least expected it. Therefore, he figured (in an absolutely BRILLIANT train of thought) that if he expected something bad to happen more and more as the day went on, it wouldn't happen.
Anyone else see anything wrong with this train of logic?
In fact, Ranma was so busy feeling paranoid that he didn't notice the pair of eyes that watched he and Akane go to school, paralleling their progress.
The girl to which the eyes were attached preferred it that way, in fact - from her lessons in Magical Royalty 2125 ("Finding and Kidnapping your Spouse"), it was best to be lurking ominously in the shadows for a bit to recon - reccons - recconis - check the situation, and the prospective kidnapee, out.
From the sullen argument going on between this 'Ranma' (when she'd picked his picture and profile out, her parents had been approving of her choice) and the girl with him, they weren't all that close - all the better. She'd find an appropriately dramatic time and carry him away to wedded bliss (heady blush), and they'd live happily ever after.
