Sakura Kinomoto jumped out of bed, her brother Toya's jarring voice having jolted her awake. Running over to him, she began to flail her arms indiscriminately at him in a windmill rotation. Placing a palm on his little sister's forehead, he easily kept her at arms length. "I'mnotamonster!I'mnotamonster!I'mnotamonster!" she wailed, while he shook his head in mock seriousness and "tsk"ed.
"And to think that I made breakfast this morning too, when it was your turn. Luckily dad didn't notice anything wrong, but I think that the weekend chores I have on schedule won't interfere with the football (A.N. soccer for you Americans) game I want to play in on Sunday." He looked down at his sister, the realization of what he was saying dawning in her face. "Good. I've had to cover for you too many times lately, so you can do this for me."
Sakura nodded. "Oh, all right, Toya." She already saw her fun day with Tomoyo and Li fading away. Catching view of her alarm clock, she gasped. "Oh no! It's really late! I've got to go to school!"
Meanwhile, in another part of Japan, a teenage girl was also gathering her books together. "Oh, this is terrible!" she complained to the world. "I'm never going to pass this exam! I haven't had any time to study what with having to go out and collect the jewel shards." She sighed. "Still, they are my responsibility, I guess. But I just wish I could have a break so I could finish classes." Her face took on a slightly softer tone. "But then I wouldn't have had all those experiences and met Inu-Yasha." Her face hardened again. "That jerk. All he thinks about is his stupid sword. Boy, if he were gone from my life for just a week so I could pass my classes, I'd be so happy!" Her face softened again, and an inner voice that she desperately did not want to listen to kept nagging at her, saying Oh really?
Toya, his hand still on Sakura's forehead, used it to physically turn her back towards the center of her bedroom. "Not until you get out of your pjs and into your uniform. Five minutes. I'll have something ready for you to eat on the way." Taking a last look around her room, he added, "and don't forget your homework on the desk." And with that, he disappeared back down to the kitchen.
Quickly grabbing her homework, Sakura stuffed it and her book in her bookbag. Doing the "Get Dressed Hop," she waited for her brother to be completely out of hearing before asking the room "Kero, why didn't you get me up? I slept through my alarm, but usually you wake me up in time! Were you too busy playing a video game? Kero? Kero?!"
In Nerima, Akane and Ranma were walking to school. High up on the fence, he paused mid-stroll and looked down at the dark-haired girl. "What?" she asked. "I dunno, but for some reason, I suddenly feel...how can I put it? I feel...safer." He shrugged and continued walking.
Hearing her brother's voice calling her, Sakura sniffled, wiped away a few tears that had escaped and composed herself. Grabbing her schoolbag, she mentally chanted Yueh, he will know. Yueh. Yueh.
