Everyone blinked at the drow wizardess.
"'American transfer student'?" Nabiki managed after a moment.
Edema examined her index finger briefly, changing the color of the lacquered nail to burgandy, then used that finger to continue writing in midair. The new writing was in red.
"I keep a number of templates handy, I got the idea from watching an anime called 'Cutey Honey' - the spell itself is fairly difficult and time consuming but when you're done you've got these cards that can be applied to individuals at need. Say you need someone who is proficient at electronics. Simply find an individual who happens to have the skill and is willing to simply sit still for a few hours. You then make a template that contains the portion [Electronics Engineer] and add whatever other bits you want. Then you apply the template to someone and remove it when you're done. Unfortunately you can't do magical knowledge that way - interference patterns develop."
Nabiki looked at the equations taking shape in midair and decided not to inquire further.
"Physical transformations can be accomplished the same way. I started researching it as a variant of Polymorph Other and this is how it all came up." Edema blinked. "It usually includes costume changes."
Everyone glanced at where Shampoo was wearing a cowboy hat and boots, tight blue jeans, and a loose T-shirt with the slogan "Dangerous Curves" on the front and "Slippery When Wet" on the back. Shampoo popped her bubblegum and feigned unconcern.
"So if we attack you, we join the 'Army'?" Ukyo asked, a bit concerned.
"Yes. We wanted to let Shampoo know the consequences of her action before actual recruitment takes place," said the Commander, considering Shampoo cautiously.
There was brief silence, broken only by the sipping of tea and some elves bringing out cookies. (Double fudge with mint chips.)
