Magic Knight Rayner: Our Hero has landed [Episode 46521]

by Oruncrest

Somewhere in the multiverse, on what would be referred to in Science Fiction as a 'Class M' world, a flare of green light exploded into existance before resolving itself into the figures of Kyle and Ganthet.

"Well, Ganthet, we've arrived." Kyle announced. "Hmmm... Looks like we've ended up in a forest that could've come straight out of 'the Hobbit'. Man! Dig that fresh air."

"Interesting, Kyle." The former Guardian commented. "I think I know why the air's so fresh. Turn around."

Kyle turned around, expecting to find some sort of hi-tech equipment that would totally ruin the ambiance of the forest he'd been enjoying. What he saw made both his lantern and his jaw fall to the ground.

Before Kyle was an endless expanse of sky, as if he was flying, or is the ground he was standing on was. Kyle leapt up to take a quick flight around, only to begin wobbling in mid-air. Hey Gatnet, I think something's wrong with the ring."

"That's strange." Ganthet admitted. "It worked just fine earlier. Concentrate harder!"

Kyle concentrated and began flying much better. "That did the trick! Maybe there's something around here that's interfering with the ring."

"That's certainly a possibility." Ganthet acknowledged. "Scan for high energy sources among the 5 to 10hz wavelengths of the microwave spectrum."

"Will do!" Kyle said before flying off.

As kyle flew off, Ganthet walked over and picked up Kyle's lantern. After muttering a few words he stared at the lantern before smiling at it. "Yes, Kyle, there is something that interferes with your ring."

"This world!" Ganthet finished before tossing the now useless lantern into the forest.

Meanwhile, in a secluded cove a young elfin man addressed his superiors who were hidden in little alcoves behind a waterfall. "He has returned."

"So what?" One of the people asked, her voice carrying impossibly over the roar of the falling water.

"Don't forget," Another person, this one with a child's voice, broke in. "that he set out to do what has been done only by the Pillar,"

"Bring back a Magic Knight?" The woman interrupted this time. "Preposterous!"

"He's done it." The elf said as he bespelled a viewing globe into existance. "Observe!"

"Preposerous, eh?" the child said as they watched Kyle and Ganthet arrive and kyle take to the air, wobbly at first, but within a few moments moving like he was born to the sky.

"Hmmph!" Was the woman's reply. If you looked real hard, you could see her cross her arms and shrug her shoulders. "He doesn't look like much!"

"Only you would disregard a flying knight!" Another woman piped up. "Especially one that's so cute!"

"Cute has nothing to do with his reason for being here." The first woman said. Then she began chanting. When it reached it's crescendo, she yelled, MONSTER SUMMONING!!!

Something coalesced from the waterfall that poured down in front of the woman, who pointed a slim finger at the image of Kyle in the viewing globe. "Go, my pet. Destroy him!" And the creature flew into the viewing globe.

Even hidden by the falling water, everyone could tell that the first woman was smirking at the second. "Now we'll see if your 'Cute Flying Knight' is worth the regard you would like to place on him."

The child spoke up. "Betcha she's gonna muufff it!"

"Shut up, you little brat!"

"Muufff it! Muufff it!" Now the second woman had joined in. "Betcha gonna muufff it!"

"AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle stared in amazement. Once he'd gotten airborne, he was quickly able to confirm his suspicion: He and Ganthet had arrived to this world on a floating island. Kyle 'thought up' a telescope into existance (and was surprised at just how much concentration it took to maintain it), and looked around. Off in the distance, Kyle saw a floating mountain. Further off in another direction, Kyle saw an active volcano, also floating in the sky.

Flying back to the island, Kyle landed by Ganthet. "Hey! You're not gonna believe this, but we've landed in some sort of fantasy world."

"Fantasy world, Kyle?" Ganthet was smiling softly at Kyle's wonderment.

"Yeah." Kyle explained. "In a fantasy world, all the laws of physics as we know them are really suggestions. Things and creatures that would be impossible in the world we come from ar commonplace here. Like this floating island. Or an erupting volcano in the sky..."

"Or the dragon that's about to attack us."

"...Or the dragon that's about to attack us." Kyle finished. Then his eyes widened. "Dragon? What dragon?"

"BREEEAAAARRRONNNK!!!!

Kyle turned around. "Oh. That dragon."
