Chance of a mess: Creating a Gendo Saotome timeline [Episode 479]

by Farsan

Deep into the fabric of the multiverse, in the Nexus of Expendable Timelines, two antropomorphic personifications were arguing... again.

"It's no matter how do you put it, Mess: Shinji is a wimp, and nothing can change that."

"Come on, Chance, you are being unfair. The main source of Shinji's inferiority complex is his abandonement by his father," Mess said.

"You mean, besides him being a wimp?" Chance interrupted.

"Oh, shut up and let me talk for once," Mess said. "I think that if Gendo didn't abandon his son, he would have turned out very different. Perhaps he would even grow up as a better head of NERV than Gendo!"

"Heh, good luck with that," Chance said. "But I believe that, given Gendo's parental abilities (that was one of his reasons of abandoning him, if you didn't remember that) he would end even more of a wimp."

"Drat; I hate to say it, but you're right..." Mess said. "Although it can be corrected."

Mess grabbed a couple of stray timelines; and proceeded to mess with them.

"What the heck are you-" Chance started to ask.

"Shhh!" Mess cutted off. "You'll see."

After a couple of subjective minutes, Mess raised the merged timeline. "Voila!" he said. "First, I've modified the original Eva timeline delaying the Angel attacks until after Gendo's death. Now, if he wants to do something with it, he would need to raise Shinji for this task. Also, about Gendo's teaching skills, I've tampered with Gendo's bloodline in order for him to have the skills of the most remarkable teacher I know of."

"Who?" asked Chance.

"Genma Saotome."

"Are you nuts?" Chance said, shocked. "He would probably tie him off with money and drop him in a pit full of penniless lawyers. Or politicians. Or both, for good measure. It's insane!"

"Remember that Genma was the one who raised one of the best human fighters in all the multiverse! You also forget that Gendo is very intelligent, so he wouldn't make the same mistakes that Genma did. He certainly wouldn't curse his son by mistake."

"Perhaps," Chance said, "but there is a chance that he would curse his son if that gave him an advantage or something..."

"Well, there is only one way to check it," Mess said. "Let's watch the timeline already."
