Finally, the old man helped Vash reach the center of the town square. There, Vash saw a large podium, and on top of that was a woman, tied to a stake, and wood all around her feet.
Taking a good look at her, Vash could admit that she was pretty attractive, a bit 'childish' with the face though. She had strawberry-blonde hair, and her body, while not supple, seemed to be athletic, as Vash could see she had a somewhat-muscular lithe frame... Especially since she was dressed in very little rags.
Vash scrutinized the girl, looking all over, trying to find some physical reason that they would want to hurt her. It almost passed by him, but Vash was observant. Her eyes... They were red. A trait that is associated with mutation. Hoping the people didn't know that her nature, Vash muttered, "I still don't see what's wrong with her."
The old man turned back to look at Vash. "Don't be fooled, young one. She is a vampire called Seras Victoria!"
"A vampire?" Vash asked.
"Yep." The old man said with a nod of his head. "She's newly vamped."
Vash raised an eyebrow. "What? Was she bitten and infected?"
"No, not with her." The old man said. "You see, with Vamp mutants, are born and live as they're human until they are roughly the age of twenty, or at least in their late teens. Their body stops growing and the accursed Vamp genes go active in a pseudo-second puberty!"
Vash's eyes hardened. "You're going to burn her at the stake, aren't you?"
"Of course!" The old man said, as if it were common occurence, (which for them, it probably was). "But first, we're going to let her suffer."
"SUFFER?" Vash asked in shock and horror.
"Yes!" The old man answered. "We will let the sun have her. A day in the sunlight would be agony..." Then, as an after thought, the old man added, "Vampires sunburn SUPER fast, you know."
That was enough for Vash. This was just too inhumane. It didn't matter that she was a vampire, Vash would have saved her anyway. But hearing what these people were going to do... They were the real monsters.
Seras Victoria was moaning in pain. The sun-light... It was so bright. She felt like her whole body felt like it was on fire, as teh people continued to throw rocks at her. She hated this. Hated the sun. Hated her heritage. Hated her life. She used to love the daylight. Now it burned worse than the fires of hell.
Seras had to squint her eyes as a figure stood before her. Her vision was screwed up at the moment, having been turned to face towards the sun. She was able to make out a tall figure in a bright red coat. "F, father?" Seras asked weakly.
She her a sound of metal slicing, and she felt the ropes around her give way. She fell forward, only to fall into the arms of her 'father'. She felt herself being carried, and wind moving against her as her father moved.
It did confuse Seras thought. As they moved through thee crowds at lightning speeds, why weren't their flashes of red, sputs of blood? She knew her father's style to kill shit brutally and with a sense of fun. Yet, there was no death or chaos going on...
No, that wasn't true. Seras could make out yelling. There was chaos, just not any brutal death. Perhaps her 'father' wasn't feeling like himself.
Snuggling up to her 'father's' chest, Seras just hoped to get to someplace safe, soon.
