The deep space monitering satellites were understandably the first to notice the ship nearing the Sol System. Following their programming, they confirmed that the approaching object was not EarthForce in origin. The DSM-Sats then forwarded their readings via hyperspace to EarthDome and then the nearest colonies.

Asrial, crowned princess of Salusia, was _not_ in that good of a mood. Oh, sure, Captain Soandso and his crew were doing _impeccable_ jobs! Why, they weren't suppused to reach the Earth's star ssystem for another two-and-a-half Standard days and were only 5 hors away in reality!
The problem was in fact, two-fold. The Zardons and themselves were only recently calming from their recent bout with one another (which had necessitated the withdrawal of their embassy from Earth). At such a time, she thought, proper royalty should be at home, with their people, helping them to rebuild. Instead, hear she was, heading into an unexplored region of space, in order to cement an alliance between her Conglomerate and the still primitive, ununified (*) people of Earth.
This led to the second problem. SHE WAS GETTING MARRIED TO A GUY SHE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW!!

Now, it was expected of royalty, and Asrial accepted it. But her parents could of at LEAST arranged a meeting or two before springing it on her!
Still sitting in her private quarters, Asrial sighed in exasperation.
'Well, sitting here moping about it won't change anything,' she told herself. 'I might as well get ready for that *shudder* transformation.'
Her thoughts were then interrupted by the sound of alarm klaxons sounding. 'Huh?'
On the bridge, Captain Soandso's first officer had only one thing to say: "What the frel is that?!"
