If he knew one thing, he knew that his fiancees might actually like being with him in that way. (Not that he planned on going that far.) They were always after him to be with them, and they wouldn't want him for... that if they didn't like him in that way, right? He still wasn't sure that they would like it if he had tried it out on him, but it would not be as bad. And it wasn't like he was really going to try anything. Just a certain touch, or that special tea or something, and he would have what he needed to prove if the book was real or not.
