The planet of Haven VI was a small world in what was once a quiet corner of the Terran Consortium. Slightly smaller than Earth, it was a verdant planet, with only a couple of larger cities, one for each of the planet's major landmasses, surrounded by smaller towns. The Consortium had constructed a large Research and Development station on the planet, the size of a small town itself. Even so, Haven VI was still living up to it's name as a peaceful place.
That all changed with the coming of the Sauroids. Massive reptilian beings standing a full 8 feet tall on average. Consortium Explorator teams encroached on their sector of the galaxy, and that seemed to be enough to start a full-scale war. The Sauroids struck like lightning, overwhelming the Terran's defenses with superior weaponry, and removing entire planetary populations, often before any response by the Terran Navy could be effected. So far, sixteen worlds had been scoured in this way. Seven more were still currently occupied by the Sauroids. And five planets has been utterly destroyed, blasted into free-floating rubble by the Sauroid Fleets.
It was a month later that the horriffying fate of those lost was discovered. A group of shaken escapees told tales of entire towns slaughtered to feed the conquering armies, the survivors penned on other planets, awaiting their turn.
Haven VI was still a good distance from the front lines, but even so, the Consortium used the R&D facility to it's fullest potential, desperately coming up with new ways to defeat the Sauroid meanace.
What may have been their best chance yet was the Rip Drive. A device that literally tore rents in the fabric of reality.
Unforutnately, something that uses that much energy is almost impossible to hide. Shortly after the initial tests, a powerful Sauroid fleet decended on the planet. Haven VI's defenders put up a brave defense, but they never really stood a chance. Soon, Sauroid drop pods and ships fell like rain onto the surface of the planet, each full of warriors eager for the hunt.
The Rip Drive, which was still undergoing maintenance and repairs, was quickly activated in a panic. With the massive tearing heard planetwide, the first wave of warriors was rent asunder. Unfortunately. the drive was nowhere near the condition to work properly, and quickly died out, even as the second wave was launched. Unnoticed in the fireworks caused my the attack, ten tendrils of energy lanced out, slipping through the space between dimensions. As if guided by an unseen hand, they found ten warriors, who may hold the key to the salvation of the Consortium, as well as the Human race. These warriors found themselves thrust into a nightmarish warzone, and would need all their skill, power, and a little luck, just to get out alive.

Three Sauroids fired at the green-armored humans they found inside a storehounse. Four of them fell instantly, blown in half by their powerful weapons. The final one rolled behind a small ground vehicle, coming up behind the heavy machinegun in the back. Hundreds of rounds drove into the chest of one of the Sauroids, shattering the armor to rip into the softer scaled body underneath. The two remaining reptiles fired back at the human, who jumped off the vehicle with suprising speed as chunks were blown out of it, demolishing the machinegun.
"These are definitely not Covenant weapons." A pleasant female voice spoke into the helmet of the armored soldier.
The super-solder known only as Master Chief pried an assault rifle from the hand of one of the dead marines. "Tell me something I don't know." He checked the ammo readout. The soldier was only able to squeeze off a few rounds before he died.
"They just stopped firing." Cortana replied. Master Chief listened for the sounds of heavy footsteps coming closer. He quickly leaned out from the remains of the Warthog, firing a long burst that dug a few gouges out of the armor of one of the appoaching saurians. He ducked away from their return fire, and tossed a plasma grenade back at them. A loud cry, cut off by a blast a second later told him that another of them was down. The SPARTAN rolled out from behind the Warthog and grabbed a second rifle, ready to finish the last one off, when a loud, but human-sounding cry sounded, along with a massive impact of metal buckling. The final Sauroid pitched forward, a massive, smoking crater left in his back.
Master Chief looked up at the newcomer. Whoever he was, he didn't look like a soldier. In fact, his clothes looked downright civillian. Cortana took the time to note that he was also unarmed, but that nobody else could've attacked the reptilian.
"Nice move." Master Chief said, still not ready to trust the human.
"Thanks." The young man said back. "My name's..."
To keep this simple, no more than 10 combat-capable people, and maybe about 3-5 non-combatants who may get "accidentially" caught up with the ten.
