Restart Point: Shape-Changing Ranma [Episode 52377]

by Deus_Ex_Machina

Ranma is a mutant, and he knows it. Ranma has known that he was a mutant since he was six and training in the Neko-ken, the trauma of which activated his x-gene early. He had no visible changes to his body except for two new 'birth marks,' both of which were hidden from casual observation. One birth mark was shaped somewhat like a cat, and hidden on his scalp under his hair. The other was shaped like a dragon, and was hidden under his clothes.

What is his mutation, you ask? He is able to shapeshift into any living thing, whether it be animate or inanimite, down to a genetic level. The only true limitation was that he could not change his mass, even though he could drastically change his size. For example: If he had 50 kg of mass in his natural state, and he shapeshifted into something the size of a kitten, he would still have the 50 kg of mass. He never told his father about his shapeshifting ability, as he had learned his lesson from the Neko-ken training that Genma was not necessarily trustworthy. And when his mind snaps due to the neko-ken, the only reason he cannot remember what was going on in that time was that the remaining sane part of his mind was completely focussed on retaining his human form to keep Genma from finding out about his ability.

Often times, Ranma would use his shapeshifting ability to hide from his father when he came up with insane training techniques, and often times he would change into a girl to do so, as girls were completely beyond Genma's notice. As time went on, Ranma got more and more control over his mutant ability, but then came Jusenkyo.

At Jusenkyo, when he fell into the spring of drowned girl, his mutant ability had a strange effect on the curse (or was that the other way around?). After he was dunked in the pool, he could no longer change sex with his mutant ability, and if he was using his mutant ability, water, no matter what the temperature, would not change him. But the curse had a strange effect on his mutant ability, as the curse had no concern for the law of conservation of mass (i.e. Genma turning into a panda, he gains allot of mass, while Ranma turning into Ranma-chan loses mass), his shapeshifting ability was no longer restricted by mass. Ranma could now gain or lose mass, just like the curses did (grabbing it from nowhere and applying it to its victim, or taking it away and putting it in that self same nowhere).
