Mind you, these triceratops were a little bit less belligerent and a bit smarter than their original counterparts. The scientists cloning them from "dino DNA" had taken a few liberties with the "canon" and there had been the idea of giving "triceratops rides" discussed back and forth over the table (often times with the air getting thick from beer fumes.)
Where some of the dinosaurs had gotten frog DNA to fill in the missing pieces, as triceratops had been a pack animal - they'd gotten rhino and (oddly enough) German Shepherd DNA.
The triceratops nudged Akane a couple more times before apparently deciding that she was indeed okay.
"Uhm, hi there," said Akane when it was apparent that she was not being scrutinized as a menu option. Which was when she spotted the thorn. A foot long thing in one forefoot.
Akane didn't know that the triceratops were used to having human handlers fixing their injuries and tending their illnesses. That the triceratops herd now actively looked for a human whenever injured so they could be fixed up. All she knew was the big critter wasn't going to eat her and had an injury. Since, when someone wasn't being a pervert or otherwise getting on a sore spot, she could be a nice girl - she quickly set to work on removing the thorn.
The triceratops made a low noise in its throat as the human did what it recognized the human role as - and mended the hurt.
Sniff sniff sniff. Hruuuu? Haruuuu
Akane held her ears as the 15 ton warm-blooded critter bellowed. When she heard a crashing and crunching behind her, and saw a whole herd of the beasties coming through the brush and mainly ignoring her presence, she reacted in what she felt was an appropriate manner.
Checking the remainder of them for injuries, patting a few on the nose or leg as she wandered through the crowd.
Hruu? HRRRRUUUNNNNNN!
Akane again clutched her ears, this time as the big beasts began moving into a circle with herself and the young ones in the center. Slowly climbing to the top of one to see what was the matter, she discovered that they were a little alarmed by:
