Hibiki, lost in his thoughts about what just happened with Meia, was understandably startled by the loud alarms that suddenly rang throughout the Nirvana. Celtic's voice was on the verge of panic "Alert! Alert! Abnormal Paksis activity detected in the Dread hangar!"
Hibiki's reaction was predictable "Partner!" His Vanguard was in the same hangar and could be threatened! The young man ran to the Dread hangar as fast as he could.

When Hibiki finally arrived in the hangar, he was relieved to see that his partner was safe and sound. The three enhanced Dreads belonging to Meia, Dita and Jura were clear as well. He panted for a while, trying to regain his breath, then spotted a group of girls, mainly from the technical crew, surrounding one of the normal dread fighters. He approached the crowd and saw Parfait "Hey, what's going on here?"
The Nirvana's chief engineer turned to face him and moved away from the spot she was at "See for yourself..."
Hibiki gasped. Parfait had been standing in front of a huge blueish crystalline formation, The Paksis!? Not again... he thought to himself. And inside was trapped..."There's a Dread in there!?!"
"Yes" Parfait adjusted her glasses who went completely opaque as she explained "History repeats itself..."
Hibiki blinked and wondered what she meant by that "Huh?"
"Do you remember when our ship rammed into the old Ikazuchi? The Paksis engulfed Dita, Jura and Meia's Dreads just like that. When it was reabsorbed into the ship's core, they had been changed into what they are now. I believe that the fact they can combine with your Vanguard comes from that event too"
"I didn't know..." I think I was running from Dita or in the brig during this "Whose Dread is this by the way?"
A mechanic he didn't know spoke up "I think it's Barnette's. Do you think you'll be able to combine with her?"
"I wonder what kind of Vandread will come out of it?" said another.
Hibiki tried to visualize himself with Barnette in a Vandread cockpit and shuddered. She would most likely try to kill him, he hadn't forgotten that she was the mutiny's leader back then and was the most vocal in 'locking up those dirty men' to quote her. Time to switch subjects "How much time until it's finished transforming?"
Parfait ran a hand on the Paksis who was beating almost like a human heart. Inside you could see the Dread's form slowly twist and expand "I'm not sure... It could be a few minutes or hours. We couldn't time the phenomenon the last time it happened"
Hibiki sighed. There was nothing he could do about the situation so it would be better to leave it to Parfait and her crew. The possibility he could gain a fourth combination partner and a new Vandread form was good news. The only problem was Barnette herself. He hoped the captain, Meia or failing that, Jura could reason her.
The door he came through earlier opened with a whooshing sound, heralding the arrival of...
