Parents And Children - Thieves and Ninjas: Walking Around [Episode 57696]

by Kender

On a street of the capital was a girl who, while very attractive, was like any other. She went amongst the crowds without causing any problems, nor did she try to stop for anything. It was as if she were a specter, there one moment and gone the next.

For Nabiki Tendo had things to do and little time for distractions that would take away from those tasks. Things had gone far out of control, and she could not allow that. Before, she had tried to stay out of the whole mess, but with what her sister had done, that had become impossible.

Before it had happened, the situation had been an... annoyance. She had simply been unable to figure out why her father and sister simply couldn't live and let live. If they couldn't be happy for Ranma, then they could at least stop attempting to push their outrage and point up upon him. He had managed to make something of his life, and she could respect that. In fact, she had met the woman who had won the pigtailed boy's heart, and found that she had liked Misao. The other woman had been sort of sweet, energetic, a go-getter, and fun to tease.

Had Nabiki had her way, her family would have been happy for Ranma and his bride. That would have allowed them to have an even larger family and a chance to make everyone lives happier. Not to mention that the connections that the couple had would have made her own family's life a little better at the very least.

But with a simple betrayl, her sister had taken any chance for reconciliation and flushed it into the river. Simple conversations over the way that things were going in Ranma's relationship had turned to whispers behind their backs. While no one would ever think to ostracize someone like Kasumi, their neighbors' habits of looking over their shoulders at them was nearly as bad.

All this Nabiki put on the shoulders of one individual: her sister, Akane. While she might have understood an accidental death because of a rage, creating a trap for the express purpose of murdering Ranma and his pregnant wife was not something that she thought that she could forgive.

In fact, she was going in quite the opposite way. Her walks had begun as a way to get away from what had become a consticting home, giving her plenty of time to think and cool off. Which allowed her to begin to come up with plans and methods of attack. The focus of her thinking was how best to stop her sister, and how to find those children before the murders did.

She wasn't under the delusion that she could do it all, but unlike her sister, she did have a clear concept of what her strengths were. While the police had more resources than she did, she knew Ranma and his freinds. Not that she could profess to know exactly what they would do, especially after what had happened, but she did know enough about them. Like who Ranma might trust with caring for his children, and among that group, who would be strong enough to protect them. Take out those who were out in the open, and that only left a few who were real possibilities.

Those were still a lot, and they were spread out, with some of them out of touch for a long time. But she did have that much to work with.

In the mean time, she had to convince the authorities that she had nothing to do with what Akane had done, and Ranma's newer friends had to know that she didn't condone what had happened. Plus she had to find out what the others who were involved were planning on doing.

Just as she hoped that she could get her younger sister stricken from the family register.

She just hoped that it would be enough. But it was all that she could do, while:
