The final attack had involved just herself and the fiancees, for, among other reasons, the fact that the majority of her retainers were long gone toward paving the way for her life beyond the attack.
Perhaps none of the others had noticed, but Kuonji was never interested in Ranma aside from six feet under and Kodachi doubted that she had any interest in any of them past completing her revenge quest. Their interests had coincided, and still did for the moment, but when the time came she had no intention of being part of Ukyou's loose ends.
She had known there was the chance of being discovered. And, even had they gotten away with the original attack, there were still investigations to consider. Kodachi was planning to fade into the underworld, where someone of her talents could always carve out an empire.
She needed to check on the status of things as well as begin investigating possible Onwiban safehouses that could hold a pair of hinin brats.
