And it just so happened that he was not in any sort of fight what so ever.
"Is it bad news?" the owner of the inn that he was staying in asked as she watched him suddenly go stiff.
Kenshin looked up from the telegraph that had just been delivered to him and gave her a rather silly grin. "No, that it is not."
"Then what is it?"
"It's from my wife. She's pregnant again, that she is."
"Well then, congratulations are in order."
"Oh yes," said Kenshin as he dropped into his chair. This was news of the most wonderful sort. He had not known such joy as when he had taken his first glimpse of his son. Kaoru had looked so radiant, even if she had been ragged and bedraggled after all the time that she had been in labor, which he had to admit had him on the edge of his seat the whole time. They had brought into the world a little life, one that they would shape and impart their beliefs and hopes to.
Now she was definately expecting again, with both of the doctors in perfect agreement on that. He so wanted to be there right at that moment to share in the joy that he knew that she must be feeling. Something like this needed his immediate attention.
Unfortunately, to do so would mean that he would have to give up his search for Ranma and Misao's missing children. That could be dangerous as their assailants had not been caught, and could still be out looking for them. Finding them was a duty that he had to perform, as at the very least, he owed it to his two slain friends.
Which put him in a deep quandry, and he knew that there would be no winners as to whatever he chose to do. Still he had to touch base soon in any case, and that meant returning to his and Kaoru's home.
He could only hope that the children would be safe until then. Whomever had been given charge of them would be alone in protecting them while:
