That sort of thing had managed to frustrate the hell out of him, and he had been forced to almost literally bite his tounge to keep from yelling at people. He had wanted to be able to bring at least some news back, but it seemed that they had hidden their children well.
What added to it was that he hadn't been able to get a lead onto where the ones who had done the crime were hiding. Or rather, he had gotten plenty of them, but none had panned out. It was as if they had vanished to the four winds and disappeared.
That was what found him in front of the resturant back in Tokyo. While he would have loved to be still on the search, he had responsiblities, and it was those that had brought him back to the city that was his home.
"Come on babe," went one patron as he propostioned the waitress, "Why not have a drink with me?"
"I can't," she replied, "I'm married and besides, I don't want to."
"You're married? And where is this husband of yours?"
"Ahem," went Yahiko as he faked a cough into his hand.
Both of them turned and the waitress' face lit up as she saw him. "Yahiko!" she yelled as she leapt to embrace him.
"Hello Tsubame. Sorry to take so long."
She leaned back and shook her head. "That's okay. It was very important. I just wish that something could have come of it."
"Me too..."
"It's okay. Kenshin and Sanosuke came back with nothing too."
"They're back?"
"Uh-huh. And there's the most wonderful news! Kaoru is going to have another baby and Sanosuke and Megumi are getting married!"
"They are? It's about time."
"Exactly," Tsubame said with a giggle.
"I'm happy that I got back that I got back in time to see him finally do it," he said... and then his stomach growled.
"And it sounds like your stomach is happy to be back too!"
"Uh... yeah..," he replied sheepishly.
"Well then, it's good that we are in a resturant so that I can feed you properly."
"But I don't want to put you out..."
"Nonsense. It's no trouble at all," he wife replied as she pulled him to a table.
"Uhh... Tsubame?"
"Yes?" she asked and then found hersel in an embrace.
"Thank you," he whispered into her hair.
She leaned her head into his chest as she returned his hug. "You're welcome, and thank you."
The two of them stood there silently while:
