So as they were dragged from one end of the country to the other, they learned to think outside of certain conventions. They became self reliant and quick problem solvers out of neccessity. All the things that they needed they learned to get through whatever means they could. The path was hard, but they were in it for the long haul.
Which was what happened when the two of them came to the outskirts of her hometown. After their Master had taken the take out meal that they had managed to scrounge and began to devour it, they went in search of something to fill their rumbling stomachs. Being in one of their brushes with death by starvation, they were willing to try anything to get themselves something to nourish their bodies.
The first inkling that Genma had was when Soun had bent over in half from pains in his belly. He had asked his friend what was wrong, but all he could do was what as the other man gasped and collapsed into a moaning lump. Everything that he had tried had not worked and in desperation he had gone for help.
By the time he had found a healer, he had been desperate for help. In the heat of the moment, he had yelled his willingness to do anything in exchange making Soun better again. When the healer had asked for some clarification, Genma had told him quite seriously that if he could heal him then he would marry his first born to the healer's. The healer had agreed, in part out of seeing how the patient needed his help.
Then had come the discovery that Soun had eaten some local plantlife that was not good at all for human consumption, which was the source of the pains. Seeing that time was of the essence, the healer gave the ill man a draught that made him disgorge the offending material. That had been followed by some healing herbs and some bed rest until Soun was well enough to travel again.
They had said their goodbyes, and left, not seeing each other again.
But the healer had heard of his patient's friend again, which was where Maya had come into the picture. As she was going to university in Tokyo, he had told her to seek out her fiance. Not only out of the honor obligation, but due to the fact that she wasn't that out going. She had been on some dates, but they hadn't amounted to much, and there hadn't been much of seeing the same guy twice. Her intrests had been more in the devices that had gotten her into the university.
It was hoped that he could get her properly married along with honoring the agreement.
