The instant Haruka's aggressive chi began focusing on him, Ren had felt it and tensed in preparation for a fight. When he heard Haruka's words and saw Hotaru's reaction however, he froze in uncertainty.
He glanced back at Hotaru. It had been a week ago that his sister had asked him to deliver a package of Dried fish to Yoh. Of course the fish had been a pretext.
Jun had decided he should visit Yoh again, and thus asked him to deliver them personally. Both siblings knew the pretext, but as aggravating as Yoh's easygoing nature was, it was an incredibly comfortable aggravation, especially as a break from his work to insure the Tao's bloody history would become something only of the past.
Still, Anna had decided that Yoh needed some more training, and rather than watch that horrifying spectacle, he had decided to visit a museum that was showing an exhibit of ancient polearms. And it had been at that exhibit that he had found himself responsible for Hotaru dropping her soda, and agreeing to take her out to lunch as an apology. They had gotten to talking, had made another date, then another. Eventually leading to the park.
Ren's confusion faded when he sensed the fist hurtling toward his face. He leaned out of its way, and stepped back out of the path of the kick which followed the punch. His lifelong combat training allowed him to instantly see where he could counterattack, but the knowledge of Hotaru's presence kept him purely on the defensive.
"Young Master," his spirit Bason asked worriedly.
"Not now," Ren whispered.
Haruka scowled as she looked at the kid with the spiky hair. He had easily evaded all her attacks, and wasn't even trying to counterattack. She heard Hotaru begging her to calm down, and Michiru insisting on it. Then she looked into Ren's eyes. 'Something about the eyes, it's familiar, but I'm not sure from where. . .' However with that familiarity came a feeling, a sense of certainty that the boy and Hotaru absolutely could not get together.
