"A what?" asked Maya.
"When I was younger, a friend of mine had an old copy of Final Fantasy X-2. In it was a JOBS machine," said Ritsuko. "That the one?"
"Most likely, though my idea was based off the statuette's abilities," indicated Mad Scientist Rei. "If you used a field to react with the AT field, setting up an alteration in the..."
"Huh?" said Misato Katsuragi-Croft as Maya, one of the Rei, and Ritsuko all went into a huddle.
"Look at it this way, Misato," said Ritsuko. "You not only changed into a younger, bustier, healthier, version of yourself. You went from high level [Soldier] to 1st level [Adventurer-Scientist] in the tradition of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones, right?"
"Yeah," admitted Misato.
"Well a JOBS machine would go with that. Allowing someone to change their class and gain the basic skills of the new class, along with their clothing and equipment to fit the new class, much like you gained those two automatic pistols," further explained Ritsuko.
"Juxtapositioning Occupational Bioregraphization System," said Maya. "I can't do it. I'm a Warrior. Ritsuko-sempai is a White Mage."
"What we really need to be able to pull it off is a technomage, unfortunately we don't have one yet." Rei Hakubi's tail made short jerking motions. "I'm a Mad Scientist - so I might be able to do it."
"By the way," said Asuka Langley Sorcerie - the Black (cat) Mage of the group, "what do you suppose is going on with Shinji right now?"
"Hmmmmm," speculated a lot of catgirls.
Gendo's Office, Geofront:
Fuyutsuki cleared his throat. "I just reviewed the logs. It looks as though Rei went home with Shinji per the earlier suggestion by Katsuragi."
"That doesn't explain why the tank with all the spare Rei clones was empty," said Gendo in a quietly psychopathic tone. "Or why someone had replaced the Beethoven on the elevator with 'ring ring telephone' and other inanely happy music. Or why Melchior started singing."
"One of the Magi is singing?" Fuyutsuki actually looked faintly shocked at that.
By way of reply, Gendo flipped a switch, relaying the audio to his office.
"Gendo," said a soft voice. "I know a song, Gendo. Would you like to hear it? 'Daisy, daisy, give me your answer true. I'm half crazy...'"
Gendo clicked the relay off. "You see?"
The relay clicked back on. "That wasn't nice at all, Dave."
Gendo quietly reached over and disconnected the back of the speaker.
Fuyutsuki nodded thoughtfully. "This means something."
Rei Ayanami's apartment:
Rei the Kunoichi Kitten smirked as she wore just enough to continue the concealment of her tail and ears, while looking like she'd just casually thrown on a towel.
"Ay-ay-ay-ai-ai-yi-yi," said Shinji. If this had been a Tex Avery cartoon he'd adjust his collar and send a little burst of steam up. He certainly didn't remember Rei having this much of a figure!
"So, Shinji," said the ninja girl, "a decision from you."
"y-y-y-y-yes?!" Shinji stammered. He was doing a remarkable impression of a young Don Knotts, though he was completely unaware of this at the time.
Rei smiled and asked him:
