"We are." Bayleef said, indicating herself. "We're the ones who share this planet with the humans."
Knuckles didn't quite understand, so she explained further. About how humans train them, and in return, the Pokemon protect them, and hopefully teach them to be better in turn. Knuckles almost took that the wrong way, but Bayleef explained that the arrangement was mutually beneficial for the Pokemon as well, and even then, a Trainer usually has to prove themselves to the Pokemon before they let themselves be captured. At least, that's how it's been with Ash.
Knuckles raised his eyebrow. She definitely talked a lot about that kid. She was beginning to sound like Amy.
Naturally, Just as Knuckles was beginning to drop his sour mood, Bayleef brought him back to the matter. After a prolonged silence, She finally said: "She really didn't mean for all this to happen, you know..."
"How do you know!" Knuckles growled back.
"S-she only wanted to show you that she cares a lot about you." Bayleef quietly replied, staring at the ground. "...But sometimes it just doesn't work out like you want it to..." She sniffed once, a single tear coming down her cheek as she remembered her accident with Ash that started this mess.
Knuckles sighed. "Maybe, but why did she always have to act so irresponsibly?"
Bayleef sighed herself. "I don't know. Maybe you should try talking to her?"
Knuckles muttered to himself for a second before finally nodding his head. "I'll try..."
"You will?" Bayleef said, perking up a little. Knuckles slowly nodded. "Okay then. How about we head back? Ash was going to talk to Professor Oak about us and the Emerald. Maybe he can help you, too!"
*A Scientist?* Knuckles thought, *Maybe he can help us get back home... or at least point us to someone who can. "Okay," he said. "Let's go back."
