"Seven!"
(gobble) "More plzz!" (clank)
"Eight!"
Watching her fiance slurp down bowls of rice-and-beef, Asuka reflected that perhaps this hadn't been the best idea for getting to know said fiance.
(gobble) "'Nother!" (clank)
"Nine!"
"You know this doesn't have to be a speed eating contest," pointed out Asuka.
(gobble, slurp) "Is good!" (clank)
"Ten!"
"You can actually taste it at that speed?" Asuka asked, genuinely curious. She hadn't seen eating this fast since college.
(gobble munch slurp) "taste?" (clank)
"Eleven!"
"I know that you're a trained martial artist and your metabolism runs a bit fast," said Asuka. "When you get older though your metabolism will slow down and you'll get pudgy eating like that."
(gobble chew munch slurp) "better?" (clank)
"Twelve!"
"A little," confessed Asuka.
(gobble chew munch slurp)"Hmmmm." Ranma slowed perceptively as he thought about the person who'd trained him to eat this fast. His father. Pudgy? (clank)
"Thirteen!"
Ranma slowed down. Just a touch. A tiny bit.
Asuka Langley Soryuu relaxed back and picked at her salad, hoping that things would go a little better as time went on.
Nodoka arrived with a girl in tow.
Nabiki winced. Formal kimono. Exotic appearance. "Fiancee?"
The girl nodded once, silently.
"NO!" Soun thundered. "No more fiancees! Ranma will marry Akane and that's that!"
"Then you renege on the promise that was made in good faith?" Rei asked in a soft gentle voice. "You choose your own deaths?"
"Yes, that's right, that's absolutely... excuse me?" Soun lost the calm stoicism.
'Making threats like that is against the law, we could have you prosecuted," said Nabiki.
"No threat," disagreed Rei. "Promises were made."
"Did it suddenly get cold in here, S-s-s-saotome?" Soun asked.
"Daddy, you've got ice forming on you?" Nabiki stared at the patterns of frost beginning to form on the two fathers.
"Rei's mother is a yuki-no-onna," explained Nodoka Saotome as she sat down at the table. "Years ago when two thieves stole food from her family, I made a promise to save their lives, resulting in an engagement to my son regarding her daughter."
"This gets better and better," said Nabiki as she watched the two fathers trying to chip ice off each other.
"O-O-O-Okay, w-w-w-w-well, maybe you have a valid c-c-c-c-claim," stuttered Soun.
Rei nodded, acknowledging the point.
Nabiki rolled her eyes. First that redheaded valkyrie, now a literal icemaiden, what next?
