"That's not the price you quoted me over the phone!"
Ranma turned to see Mousse arguing with the clerk. "That would mean..."
"Mousse paid for Shampoo to become his pet Shamchan," put in Akane. "Isn't that nice?"
"Yeah, he even paid for her to be-" Ukyo began.
"When I said I wanted her fixed I meant her attitude!"
Hearing Mousse say this puzzled Ranma for a moment before he realized the possible meaning of this and turned an interesting shade of green.
"You're not planning on getting us fixed, are you Ranma?" Akane whimpered.
Ranma practically gave himself whiplash shaking his head. He turned even more green at that thought.
Akane and Ukyo both looked very relieved.
"Come on, Shampoo," said Mousse tugging on the choker collar.
Watching a piteously mewling Shampoo get dragged off by Mousse, Ranma shuddered. He wasn't very religious, in fact the amount of times he'd even thrown in a 1yen coin to a coffer had been a rarity, but he felt like praying for Shampoo who was now quite obviously not even as mentally with it as Ukyo or Akane was at the moment.
"Sorry about this," said the clerk as he approached Ranma again. "He required extra work and the window display 'in order to fool some moron he knew' but didn't think we would charge him extra for it. Now, about your two acquisitions. They've already been paid for, so if you'll sign this paper?"
Ranma looked it over. "What is it?"
"Just a statement that you're accepting these two pets, that you'll return them if there's a problem, and that you're not using them for medical experiments, food, or similar abuse." The clerk shrugged. "Even if both of them paid in advance to become your pets, we do at least try. The young man who just left being a notable exception, but I understand he has some issues."
"How soon can they be turned back to normal?" Ranma asked.
"It'll take at least six months for their DNA to stabilize for the reversal treatment," said the clerk. "If they decide at that time that their transformations are not working out, simply return for the reversal - same charge as for the original treatment."
Ranma debated for a minute whether he wanted to know, then had to ask. "When you said Shampoo was fixed, you meant..."
The clerk seemed puzzled for a moment. "Oh, the kitten Shamchan? Well, in her case, fixed means-"
