As the extent of the problem was becoming evident, he was becoming rapidly getting to the point where he was jumping at shadows.
Nabiki had noticed, and might have considered doing something, but her mind was already occupied on the mystery of the vanished male. Even if this meant that women would be at the top of the corporate ladder, she had clued into something darn few of the people out there had apparently clued into.
Artificial childbirth methods like cloning were expensive and highly experimental. Cloning a cow was most likely to produce a malformed fetus that didn't provide for a next generation. Not good. So, even with cloning, diminishing numbers as production closed down further until...
Kasumi had a vacuous look to her that differed from her normal look by an extremity of degree. She had always embodied the Japanese housewife role, but now with no husband and no children a very real possibility - she was having to consider other alternatives. Which in her case probably meant counter help at McDonald's with the possibility of eventually becoming a manager. Hardly her first career choice but likely what she'd settle for.
As the news reports played on the TV, she began to twitch as the extent of the disaster became apparent.
Akane turned the ring over in her hands. On occasion she could see flitting shadows in elaborate patterns pass over the gold.
It was obvious now. She had been holding this, angry at Kuno, Ranma, her father and Mister Saotome, and all the boys in her life. She'd wished them all gone. They were.
Wishing them back did nothing. Beating on the gold did nothing.
It remained unresponsive no matter how much she yelled at it.
"So it was you, Akane Tendo!"
Akane glanced up to discover Kodachi there, watching impassively.
"You rid the world of my brother and father, which I would be inclined to forgive," said Kodachi. "Yet the loss of my Ranma-sama can not be forgiven."
Angry and embarassed (particularly with her sisters among others beginning to look to see what was going on), not to mention frustrated about not getting the ring to work, Akane yelled at the preening gymnast. "I wish you'd shut up!"
"I..." Kodachi looked in shock as her voice stilled.
