Lina's Son: L-Sama's thoughts on tea and adoption... [Episode 66342]

by Twailaith

In a golden bubble of 4D space floating beneath a whirling sea of eternal darkness an entity of both creation and enthropy sat, quietly sipping her tea.

Of course, the being wasn't truly sipping anything. Nor did she have any reason to sip, seeing as she had no need to imbibe matter to substain her existence. In fact, 'she' could just as well be refered to as a 'he' or an 'it'.

But 'She' rather liked the thought of being female, just as She liked the thought of being able to sit in a comfortable sofa chair and sip tea, and so She did.

The being, commonly refered to as the Origin of All, the Mother of Darkness or simply L-Sama, felt very satisfied with Herself. She was currently watching as a newly minted mother was trying her hands at teaching her son magic.

Lina Inverse, the young human girl She'd once returned into Herself as payment for destroying a major Mazoku and for saving the life of the man she loved. The one being She had ever allowed to return from the chaos inside Her, at her beloved's request as he raced into Her without fear nor care for his own wellbeing... A choice She'd truly never regretted.

Ah humans, the centerpiece in Her creation, capable of the greatest bravery and yet evils that would make the Mazoku nod in respect. With all their beautiful emotions and passions and hopes. Dreamers who sought to make their visions into reality be it by magic or blood and sweat. Freedom of choice... The humans were the tiny weight that tipped the scale in eighter the Dragon God or Demon Lord's favor and decided their world's fate. They were such fun watching.

And amongst all the humans She'd created, Lina was undoubably Her favourite.

She'd watched since the girl had drawn her first breath, to her first attempt at magic, to the moment She could first feel the girl's magic call upon Her very presence... She'd watched as she met and eventually fell in love with Gourry Gabriev, made comrades, friends, and how she one by one began to lose them.

The spell that utterly wiped Xellos from the face of the earth had been magic drawn from Her, and in the moment as She had let herself be directed thought Lina Inverse's magic circuits, She'd known the pain and rage the girl felt as if it had been Her own. For the first time in Her time-less eternal existence, She'd cried.

The loneliness, the eternal solitude of her existence, was NOTHING compared to having loved and lost. That moment, The Golden Lord had decided to intervene. The girl deserved some major happiness in her life.

Lina's heart's desire, her single greatest wish and longing, had been to carry her dead lover's child.

That She could not do. Gourry Gabriev's body and mind were lost within the infinite sea of chaos. L-Sama was Chaos incarnate, to dive deep within Herself and select out a single possible creation out of the endless possibilities inside Her was a very powerful act of Order, Her polar opposite. In human terms, it was like asking a raging blizzard to heat itself up to light a cooking fire, Against all natural logic.

Even She had laws she had to obey.

But She could still provide her with a child... L-Sama knew that Lina Inverse was very unlikely to ever love someone again for as long as she lived, and thus closed the door of having her naturally concieve an offspring. No, even if she was to give a (not so) virgin birth, a part of her would still consider it a betrayal against Gourry's memory. ...And L-Sama didn't have the heart to do that against her.

That only left adoption.

The child she'd picked had been chosed completely at random, as was her nature. But yet, he fit the bill better that she would have dared imagine. In claiming him She had made not one, but two people's lives a little brighter.

Looking at the sot-covered mother and son's mirthful laughter at his first failed attempt of a fireball, She had to say She was proud of Her choice.
