And there were some who stayed much later than they had to.
Sitting with all lights off save the one on his desk, Detective Maki Saito spread out the file in front of her. In it were papers and a pair of photos that she was examining intensely, looking for some sort of answer from them. Each could possibly hold a clue to solving the puzzle before her, and she wasn't about to miss any of them.
Picking up a photo, she leaned back in her chair and looked at the grainy image that was on it. It was of a tall woman in dark clothes, but it was so out of focus that finding details was hard. However, she apparently wasn't too keen on getting her picture taken, and tended not to stick around for long after getting spotted.
Which went the same for the girl in the second picture. The redhead was quite obviously shorter and younger than the other, but that was all that they knew of her. Even eyewitness accounts were unreliable, even if they happened to come from a fellow officer. And there wasn't even a picture of the third name mentioned in the report, as no one had ever seen her and told anyone.
For the most part, it appeared that they were not working together, or even knew of each other's existance. There was a possibility that this 'Whisper' person did, but if she did, there was never an indication of that. Not that the 'information broker' was about to let anything out without a reason.
All of which meant that Saito was going to have to work to find these vigilanties. What to do with them was a big question, but they were breaking the law. On the other hand, they tended to only help the police and the populace, and were apparently much talked about by the criminal element. But that didn't mean that she didn't have to find them, and solve their mysteries some time. In the mean time, they were doing what the police could not, and managing to do it quite well.
She could almost respect them for that.
