The Wrath of Wolves: The Wolf's Lair [Episode 68022]

by Thrythlind

Brendan smiled. He'd waited a long time for this to come, for the time of his vengeance to be at hand. The fools had thought him destroyed, and all it took was a simple illusion and teleport to accomplish that.

That had given him all the time he needed to prepare. To prepare without the interference and trickery of undead mages to consider. Of course, there had still been some snags.

He smiled as he past by the cell holding the girl he'd originally intended for Nabiki's role. As he approached it, he withdrew a curious amulet, shaped like a piece of a broken sphere. He considered it even as the girl glared at him.

"Funny, I thought this little trinket might be the secret behind why you do not catch lycanthropy," he said. "But you still resist. You must have great personal power as well, very interesting."

"You'd better let me and everyone else go, then," Kagome insisted. "Unless you want to see that power!"

Brendan laughed and paced to one side of the cell before turning back to face Kagome.

"If you knew how to use it," he said. "You already would have. But never fear, sooner or later, one of these bites is going to get through your defenses and perhaps then you'll understand your self. Until then, I have another question for you."

"What makes you think I'm going to tell you anything?" Kagome insisted angrily.

"How is this little trinket used?" Brendan asked, ignoring her. He dangled the amulet out before her.

Kagome growled, an impressive sound that almost had Brendan convinced that an infection was actually taking hold in the spiritually grounded child. But it was obviously just her anger.

"I'm not telling you anything!" Kagome demanded after a while.

"Perhaps you don't even know," Brendan said. "Like you don't know about your own powers...perhaps that's why you didn't use it to defend yourself...or escape before I took it."

Kagome slammed her mouth shut, an angry expression clear on her face as she stared helplessly at her captor. The situation was quite the opposite, she knew what was needed to gain the jewel's power, but she had no desire to be twisted by that power. If this freak assumed otherwise, all the better.

"I think that confirms it," Brendan said. "Well, we'll talk again. I have killers to train."

"You're not going to get away with this!" Kagome shouted as the man left the dingy room and the cell within. She sat down and moaned, thinking quietly to herself. "Where are you Inu-Yasha?"
