Faking It: Later Days, Younger Memories [Episode 71233]

by Mantech1

Early morning, the sun just beginning to rise above the horizon. It's light seemed to color the sky every shade of from deep red to light orange, serving to bring notice to the exquisite garden that stretched to the low hills. Scene such as this that have inspired some very beautiful paintings in the past as the sheer variety of colors and sculpted/wild landscape served to bring inspiration to some painter or another.

The head of Cryo Corp. saw none of this however, sure his eyes were focused in the general direction of the sunrise but they did not register this spectacle of nature. Beside him a folder lay open, about halfway read. It was the last of a stack of ten folders that had been delivered to him by a team of data-miners that detailed the history of the young man, no, of Saotome Ranma. He shuddered. Quite a few of the details in those folders just couldn't be believed, despite the corroberation with police,eye-witness reports and a dozen video cassettes the data-miners bought from a girl in Nerima.

Part of the mans business oriented mind couldn't help but think what price this lifestory might get if it were sold to the right studio, it had everything in it. Everything except a happy ending.

Despite the majority of the Board's vote to keep....Saotome-san ....on ice until a time when thawing him out (and thus letting the story out) would not have such grave consequences for the company, he had disagreed. He and a few others appeared the only ones to think of the consequences for Saotome-san, the removal from that which was familiar, namely family, friends and loved ones.

So a couple weeks after that first decision he brought the matter up again and proposed thawing Ranma out in six months along with a detailed study of his personal history to determine what his (and his families) feelings on the matter might be. To appease those board members he added the condition that if the private investigators should turn up conclusive proof that Saotome-san should not be thawed out then he would have the process stopped and the young man refrozen.

But, dear Kami, he hadn't expected this.

-----------------------------------------------

Ranma stared at the cieling, not sure why, or really caring for that matter. Despite the sheets and blankets he felt cold. Drawing the sheets tighter around him he turned on his side, intent on going back to sleep (thus ignoring the other questions on his mind) when he noticed a folded piece of paper. Blinking his eyes and craning his head he noticed his name written on it and, curious, reached out for it.

When he could finally work through the chill that seemed to permeate his bones, Ranma finally noticed the pair of silk pajama's he was wearing. Remembering the note he slowly walked out of the room and looked around until he saw at one end of the hallway an open patio door with a man watching the sun rise. Hesitantly, Ranma stepped forward.
