Blood pumping, legs racing, Kuno closed in on his mark. Blade and will were as one, a weapon perfected and intent on the kill. Adrenalin washed the first signs of fatigue from his body, his mind focused only on one thing. Unfortunately, that thing just smiled back arrogantly, avoiding blow after vicious blow the young man dealt out. The two fighters danced down the Tokyo street, their hearts setting the rhythm, their dance floor glowed in the luminescent neon lights of Ken’s Big Donuts emporium. Each missed blow was a counter beat. Their steps took the lead, the accompanying grunts, groans, a muttered cursing following the two in their ballet of death.
“Kuno baby, are you getting tired yet?” Nabiki asked, ducking under Kuno’s latest swing and striking, only to abort her attack in favor of dodging Kuno’s counter stroke.
“Shut up!” Buzzing filled the dark haired youth’s ears as the Wasp-girl took flight. He gave chase. Giggling, Nabiki continued to draw him further down the road.
“Kuno baby, you might as well give it a rest. You can’t beat me. Heck, you can’t even slow me down. I have become… superior… to you and those other idiots.” She casually turned in the air, avoiding yet another air pressure strike from the faux samurai.
“I’m faster than you, cutie.” She backed her claim by flying around him a high speed, forcing him to go on the defensive. “I’m stronger than you. And let’s face it, I look a whole lot better than you do. What could you possibly do to defeat me?”
“How about this?” Kuno yelled. Another powerful blade of air pressure was hurled at his foe, who nonchalantly stepped out of its path.
“Was that all? I had ho-” her words cut of as she was violently flung to the ground, the tip of a fire hydrant hitting her squarely between her shoulder blades. The following blast of water was only the icing on the cake, the real damage already done.
“Wow. That looked painful,” Kuno remarked as the Wasp-girl tried to get to her feet once more, with little in the way of success. “Did it hurt a lot? I really, really hope it did.”
“Heh,” Nabiki coughed, her lips painted crimson with her her own blood. “So you do have a sense of humor, eh Mr. Poofy Hair?” Kuon was a bit amazed to see her manage to start standing.
“Let’s finish this.” A moment later Kuno was in motion once more, his body quickly moving to intercept the still incapacitated Wasp-girl. He closed swiftly, using his momentum to add to the power of his strike.
“Return to the hell from whence you came!” The wooden sword swept forward and downward, intent on cutting through the neck, only to jerk to the side at the last moment.
“What?” was all Kuno could say before his chest exploded in pain, the air knocked from his lungs. Back he fell, his feet digging shallow trenches into the concrete. Using his sword for support he dropped to one knee, fighting the urge to black out.
“W-what the h-hell?” his thought ran rampant. “She should be dead! I shouldn’t be the one fighting to stay alive! What happened?”
“Heh. What’s the matter Mr. Poofy Hair? Cat got your tongue?” Nabiki finally managed to stand fully. His eyes blurred, Nabiki’s form dancing between one and five images. Her abdomen twitched restlessly behind her; the long, supple appendage sported a light spattering of blood.
“My blood,” Kuno thought distantly. “It was the tail.” He didn’t even have the strength let to curse himself for not seeing it sooner.
“I should think you’d be pleased. It isn’t every day that I meet someone that forces me to use my tail. I can’t decide if I should kill you for that or thank you,” Nabiki’s voice had regained its mocking quality. Her tirade continued, but Kuno paid it no mind. He studied her intently, thanking whatever god made the beast so arrogant that it would give its enemy time to gain a second wind. It just didn’t make any sense. Why would she allow him to gain his bearing like this?
“There had to be something, some reason I’m missing… There!” His eyes focused completely finally noticing the wobbling of Nabiki’s legs. “She can’t move either.” “Are you listening Mr Poofy Hair?” Nabiki noticed that he wasn’t paying attention.
“Huh? No, not really.” Kuno grit his teeth and rose, feeling what had to be several broken ribs shift.
“Tisk. You should pay more attention when people are talking to you. I said you’ve been fun, but now I must take my leave of you. Later handsome.” With a wink and a blown kiss she took flight, and though he wasn’t certain Kuno could almost swear she even flew with a limp.
“Heh. Still alive. Lucky me.” The sounds of combat drew his awareness back to the world around him. He cursed as he realized how far away from the others he had ventured. Painfully he backtracked, hoping Ranma and Hikaru could take care of them
