Instead he merely stared.

The thing rolled along on large wheels, was a bilious yellow, and had a number of odd arms and blades and such on mechanical limbs. It was also obviously old and battered.

"Valkeia manultuh vorteihi?" said the huge box, extending a mechanical tendril towards his tent.

"HEY! DO YA MIND?!" Ranma yelled at the thing.

For all that it was a 30ft by 60ft yellow rectangle, it appeared to jump. It slowly turned towards Ranma.

"Vorteihi?"

"I don't do that vaur-tay-hii stuff," said Ranma. "I don't suppose you speak Japanese?"

"Vorteihi nomnal?"

"English speak a little," tried Ranma.

"That what dispatch say," said the box. "A human. A real live human. You've come back?!"

"Huh?" Ranma said.

The box seemed to pause before it replied.

• "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for returning."
• "This area is not safe for human habitation. Radiation levels remain unsafe. Please accompany to detoxification."
• "This planet is in quarantine. Please accompany to nearest shuttlepod."
• "We have to get you to safety before the Alliance finds you."
• "I have waited 10,000 years to see a human Master again. Thank you. Thankkkkkkkkk" Ranma watches as the machine finally breaks down a final time.
