The elder Saotome gave a sad shake of his head. "Really, Lina-chan, you need to learn to get along better with the Kunos. True, they're all raving lunatics that will eventually bring this world to ruin--OW!" Ranma briefly turned to glare at his wife before continuing. "But they ARE family, now. Besides, I thought you two were buddy-buddy?"
"With that witch? Not while she's trying to steal my boyfriend! The nerve of that pompus, balloon-chested..." Lina growled in outrage. All she did was turn her back for a minute, and Naga was already trying to take her dear Gourry-chan!
"Boyfriend?" Akane said with more than a little bit of edge in her voice.
"Er, that is..." Lina suddenly found her feet VERY interesting. "My study partner! That's right! Can't get into Gariland Magic Academy without passin' that entrance exam, and can't do that without studying! Lots of it!"
"Uh-huh." Her mother sounded not quite convinced. "And what type of studying do you two do?"
Oh, just his back, his muscles, his really big sword, and his butt that you can bounce a gold piece off of, Lina didn't say. "Oh, just some basic Shamanistic, advanced Black Magic, and a little Arcane," she said aloud. "I'm sure that will cover most of the basics, unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat to surprise people taking the entry exam."
Ranma shook his head. "I'm only letting you do this because you seem really good at it. I still expect you to carry on your martial arts training."
Lina tried not to roll her eyes. Her father was SO old-fashioned. So what if he was a hero of Ivalice? "Right, pop. Anyway, back to training. Gotta duel with that bimbo this afternoon."
"AHEM," Akane looked at her daughter crossly.
"Er... I mean, time to clean up this mess, and then practice?"
