Ranma Rancher: Aura's pride & her fall [Episode 80889]

by Kestral

Aura got cocky, dancing and twirling around during the match.

Her opponent, one of the golem breeds, leapt high and assumed a spread eagle position.

Ranma yelled something very very impolite.

THWAM!

"... you idiot," finished Ranma.

The golem roared and did a punching victory stance.

"Kwahahahaha," came an all too familiar voice. "Just the sort of pathetic performance I'd expect. You haven't taught that Pixie anything have you?"

"I don't really want to talk now, Teehee."

"THAT'S TEETEE!" yelled the other trainer. "Well, actually this is for the better. We don't need your pathetic monsters cluttering up the schedule. Ta taaa."

Ranma watched Yuri run out to Aura. He watched as the stretcher came out and hauled Aura off.

He listened numbly as an estimate of four weeks recovery was placed on her. "FOUR WEEKS?!"

"You'll have to retire her and get another monster if you start again sooner," said Yuri. "Problem is that the league really frowns on that."

"Oh," said Ranma. One disc had produced Aura, so he was curious what was on the other two.

"Maybe if you froze her and then combined her later," said Yuri, continuing to think about it.

"What's this combining stuff?" Ranma asked, forgetting he was supposed to know all this.

"Oh yeah, they probably do it different back at the school," said Yuri. Though it was a bit odd that Ranma didn't know there was a lot of things he still had trouble remembering. He must have gotten hit really hard when that Suezo had landed on him. "When you freeze a monster, they're preserved and you can get a new one."

"Okay," said Ranma, thinking this was a good game plan.

"Except that you can never unfreeze a monster. You just combine it with another monster to produce a third monster." Yuri pointed at one of the monsters now taking the field. "You see that one?"

Ranma looked and saw what Yuri was pointing at. "One of those anthro-whatzit rabbits, except this one's blue and got a horn?"

"Crystal got one of those combining a Tiger and a Hare," explained Yuri. "His Tiger was old and he'd just gotten a new Hare so he combined them with a special item called a Lucky Star to give the combined monster extra power. It's called a Pulscorn."

Ranma thought about that. "Waitaminute. Ya take two monsters and make one out of 'em?"

"Yeah, it's how monsters that go wild reproduce. Monsters only live for five years before combining, Ranma," Yuri pointed out.

"Five years..." Ranma said, trying to imagine that. Five years and dying of old age? No wonder all Aura could say was "Qwee."

"Yes," said Yuri. "But if you get Aura to rank C or B, more of her original memories will be left after combining. Though I don't think you'll have that long with Aura. Usually an injury like this cuts a year, maybe even two, off their lifespan."

Ranma winced. That seemed like a long time when put in such terms.

"Well, I might as well get back to the store," said Yuri. "It looks like you've got a month before you'll be raising monsters again."
