A Long Cat's Tale: Of Which Overseas Calls are Lectured Upon and Then Hung Up On [Episode 82634]

Ranma stared at the area that the appiration had formerly occupied. Slowly, he brought his hand up to scratch his head. "Damn, what the hell was THAT about?" he pondered, scratching his furred ear with his claw.

His hand froze, along with his expression, as he processed that piece of data. Slowly, the hand of the martial artistdropped from his head and placed itself in front of his face. FOr a while, Ranma studied his now black-furred hand. Paw. Whatever.

Deciding to ignore this fact for the time being, Ranma forced his hand/paw/whatever to the string of numbers that hovered in mid-air. Strangely enough, the numbers glowed somewhat, reforming into a strip of paper, which landed neatly in his outstrectched hand/paw/whatever.

"Okay..." Ranma muttered, turning around away from the ruined shrine, "...now where's a phone...?" He blinked as he beheld a payphone that he was positive wasn't there moments before. Of course, he hadn't looked behind himself since he met the so-called Cat Goddess, but the fact is...

"The fact is, I ain't gonna look a gift horse in the mouth," Ranma stated. He walked over to the green phone while reaching towards his back pocket. He tried, succesfully, to ignore the tail that was sticking out from above his ass.

He picked up the phone, and removing a phone card from his pocket, looked at the number again. "Huh... so this is in..." he studied the country numbers as he inserted the card into a slot on the phone. "Wow, America?" he exclaimed.

Now, before any objections are raised in protest as to the convenientcy of Ranma having a phone card, AND knowing the correct numbers for dialing the "land of the free", ponder this: Ranma is VERY used to traveling, what with being malleted into LEO on a daily basis. Sometimes, it is neccesary to use the phones around the Tokyo area (and sometimes out of the city itself) in order to, say, tell Kasumi that, no, he would be unable to make it back in time for dinner because he had sprained his ankle due to falling from an altitude of a hundred feet, and was stranded in Tomobiki.

Since cases like this happened on a regular schedule, plus whenever he would acutally get back home a certain tomboy would knock him back to where he came from for cheating on her and flirting with imagined hussies, it took up quite a bit of cash. Therefore, he found it much more cost effective to use a prepaid phone card, which could easily be obtained at any local (or Tomobiki) convinience stores.

As to knowing America's country code?

Well, it's not all that hard; it's just a "one" before the number.

Now that the lecture on international calling is complete, let us continue...

Britanny groaned as the phone beside her bed began blaring. She rubbed her eyes to try to stimulate vision into the sleep deprived orbs. "What the..." she moaned as she turned onto her chest, in order to snatch the plastic bar used to communicate with other lifeforms.

"Awright, it's two in the morning. You BETTA' have a good reason for waking me up," she growled into the reciever.

A accented voice responded over the phone line, "Is there a Lydia McKraken there?"

Stupidly, Britanny blinked, trying to remember who she was... Oh yeah. "No, she isn't," she replied. 'What the heck is a guy asking me about a wererat?'

"... You sure?"

"Positive. Try Ireland," the werecheetah spat out, a bit nastily (though mostly due to grumpiness), and hung up the phone.

Beside her, a lump under the blankets shifted somewhat. "Brit? Who was that?" Stryyp mumbled. Actually, it wasn't exactly those words, since he was still half asleep.

Britanny flopped back onto the bed, snuggling up to her husband. "SOme guy, asking for one of the wererats. Go back to sleep," she ordered, only to discover that he had done so before it was issued. She shrugged, then prepared to enter La-La Land as well.

Ranma stared at the phone in his hand/paw/whatever. "Oops. Forgot about the time difference," he muttered, wondering what he was going to do next.
