"So, sempai, how is Shinji-kun doing?" asked Maya. She had stayed with Ritsuko to help her arrange the examination room. The two women had made some small talk when Maya decided to tackle the subject of the Third Child.
For her part, Ritsuko thanked her good fortune that the room's air conditioning (set on decontamination level for a few minutes however) had cleaned the room of the smell of sweat and sex. She had also removed all physical traces of her lovemaking with Shinji before letting him go. Simply put, there was no remaining way of suspecting her of unacceptable conduct toward the Third Child.
Still, Ritsuko had to restrain herself to not show surprise at her subordinate's question. She answered in her usual cool and professional tone "The Third Child? He's doing fine. Why do you ask?"
Maya wasn't as adept at hiding her emotions as her sempai. She dodged her superior's gaze and looked at a wall, obviously embarrassed "I'm just worried about him, that's all..."
Ritsuko knew Maya was a nice girl, maybe too nice for NERV, but something did not sit well with her in her reactions "That's very nice of you to care for his well-being..."
"Of course I do, sempai! Shinji, Rei and Asuka all fight to protect us from the angels. Of course, I care for what happens to them! Shinji-kun is the one who did the most of all the children. To have him a victim of a stupid accident..."
"All right, all right! I see your point, Maya" said Ritsuko, her hands waving in a placating manner "You don't have to worry though. Shinji-kun is the healthiest young male I've seen in a long time" *Oh, yeah... No man can be healthier than my Shinji-kun right now* she added mentally.
Maya sighed in relief "I'm glad. The others will be too..." Maya clamped her mouth shut with her hand. How could she have let that slip out!?
Ritsuko raised an eyebrow at that statement "Others? What others?"
"Well, since his transformation, Shinji-kun has been gathering quite the fan-club at NERV, the single women especially. Hehehe..." Maya chuckled nervously.
"Really? I didn't notice"
"Well, that can't be helped, I suppose. You've been so busy with the analysis of the incident and checking up Shinji-kun since yesterday..."
"Yes, I was, wasn't I?" Ritsuko's gaze grew distant in reminiscence for a brief moment. She shook her head to break the distraction. This wasn't the time to have kinky daydreams! "So Shinji-kun is becoming quite the heartbreaker without trying..." She certainly had personal experience on that subject.
"Yes, so don't be surprised if some of our personnel ask you to tell them how is Shinji-kun naked" Maya couldn't help but blush when she said that "Or even ask for pictures..."
Ritsuko was a little flabbergasted. Yes, Shinji was a hunk now but to come to this? "That bad?"
"Yeah... But don't worry. I don't think any of them will try something" *For now... Although I am not sure of major Katsuragi's intentions*
"They'd better. Look but don't touch. Shinji-kun is not ready for a romantic relationship yet, appearances nonwithstanding"
"Of course... You know what, sempai? We should try to be friendlier to him, make him more at ease. I think he'll need help to deal with his change. And friendly advice from us, adults, too"
"Why, Maya, that's... an excellent idea. But I'm really busy . I haven't the time to go and meet him out of working hours" *Unless I broke up with Gendo and it's too soon to do that*
"Then I'll do it! I have enough free time. I can even take a few vacation days!"
Ritsuko was torn. Maya seemed really eager, almost too much. Shinji wasn't that irresistible, was he? "If you're sure about this..."
Maya was all smiles "Leave it to me, sempai! Consider this as doing my part to support morally our pilots"
