Nabiki Tendo regarded to view the antics of the Nerima Wrecking Crew as her own private floorshow. She didn’t really fear the weird and insane martial artists that have coming into Nerima since Ranma and Genma entered into their lives. She’s much more wilier and trickier than most of them put together. The only ones she had to tread around carefully were Cologne and Happosai. As long she didn’t do anything to directly threaten either of them, she can manipulate the rest to her heart’s content.
Nabiki Tendo also has one understandable flaw. The arrogance of youth. She didn’t believe that any harm would come from her actions and that she, and by extension her family, would not suffer any permanent harm. She also believed that while Ranma was Akane’s fiancée, Ranma was her own personal plaything. He was there for own amusement, and no one else’s. Paradoxically, she also believed that Ranma wouldn’t harm her or let any one harm her. Money was secondary; it was the thrill of being the master manipulator that gave her the adrenaline rush.
Nabiki also believed that it would end when Akane finally admitted to being in love with the dumb jock and marry him. Which was why she was trying to prolong and milk it for all it’s worth. Which was also the reason why she sold the info to Shampoo and Ukyo to the failed wedding.
Nabiki treated the appearance of Ameratsu the same way she treated any other event in Ranma’s life. How to make a quick buck out of it. Cologne knew the perils of meddling in the affairs of the gods, but Nabiki was not Cologne. So she did what she always did.
She sold the info to 5 newsprint and 3 radio reporters. For five thousand yen apiece.
All eight were familiar with the Nerima scene, so they didn’t doubt Nabiki’s piece of info. But this was one piece of info, they decided was too hot to spread and should be squelched. Unfortunately, 4 people overheard the conversation, 3 gossiped it to their families and friends.
Newsprint, radio and TV maybe the fastest means of getting information, but there is one method that is only slightly slower and as old as time.
The Grapevine.
By noon, it had reached the people on the streets. By mid afternoon, it had reached the corporate offices. By evening, it had reached the ear of the emperor.
