Setsuna Meiou, aka Sailor Pluto, had a long and interesting history. In her original incarnation, she had been instructed to guard the Gates of Time, with only three rules:
1) Never allow history to be altered.
2) Never leave the Gates of Time.
3) Never stop time.
In the last few weeks of her thousand-plus years, she had broken these strictures repeatedly, eventually resulting in her death. However, by the grace of Neo-Queen Serenity, she had been reborn in the future and sent back through time to resume her post. However, as this was an act performed by a newly-ordained Queen who relied on fragmented memories of a prior life instead of real knowledge in order to wield the Silver Crystal, the geas placed on Pluto as part of her duties was largely inactive, and the Senshi was left to her own devices as to how to fulfill her role.
In most universes, this would eventually lead to the defeat of Chaos in order to create a "perfect" utopia in a frozen world that would die out in a millennium or so due to lack of reproduction - if life is already perfect, who needs children? - leading to the extinction of all life on Earth. However, the introduction of the survival imperative carried in Ranma's, and now Setsuna's genes, would allow Crystal Tokyo to flourish for some time.
Setsuna permitted herself a satisfied smile. Normally, her duties would force her to abort the child she knew she carried, and destroy Ranma. But Queen Serenity had tasked her with preserving Crystal Tokyo, and her own position demanded that she produce an heir, in time. In this case, circumstances allowed her to sidestep the problem, as long as she made sure that SHE was born fully human...but weren't those two meddling mooncats in for a surprise?
