Touji scowled. "That's right! You might have taken the wonderful Misato-san away, but it ain't nice ta make fun of us like that!"
Shinji sighed a bit. "I am Shinji Ikari!"
"Yeah right!"
"Listen. I was piloting my Eva in a test for this new battery thing for NERV, but there was this overload and it knocked me out. When I woke up, I looked like this!"
"So we're supposed to believe that you just happened to be changed into this?!" the military otaku asked, "How stupid do you think we are?!"
"Very," Asuka stated primly.
"Says you, Devil Girl!"
"Guys!" the Third Child put in before she could retaliate, "I can understand why you're having a hard time believing me, but it's true! I can even get you records from NERV that prove it!"
"If you really are our friend," Touji told him, "Then tell us how we first met!"
"Which time? When Kensuke sent me the message asking me if I was the pilot, or when you punched me because your sister got hurt the first time I piloted?"
Both boys stared at him as he gave the correct answer.
"It is Ikari-kun," Rei stated.
Misato smirked as she put her hands on her hips and leaned down at them. "I can have Doctor Akagi explain it all to you, and show you all the records of the accident that she can."
"Idiots," sniffed Asuka, "I wouldn't have made such a mistake."
"Then you knew it was Shinji when you were hitting him?"
"What?! NO! I thought that he was some stupid pervert who'd broke in!"
"So... you're not having your evil way with Misato-san, and doing things that are completely improper and nasty?" Kensuke asked his transformed friend.
"HUH?!" Shinji replied, "I would never do anything like that to Misato! We've only been doing things that we should, and that are right!"
"Oh... And you're our friend Shinji, right?"
"Yeah... I was the guy who hung out with you at that tent of yours, remember?"
"Hey, it really is you!"
"That's what I've been saying!"
"And now that you know, you guys can leave," Asuka informed them.
Her words made the military fan push his glasses up on his nose as looked ready for a fight. "Why should we when we've just discovered what happened to our friend, witch girl?!"
"Because we have much more important things to do than to deal with the likes of you!"
"How can being around a nasty girl like you be better than being with his friends?!"
"Easily. Besides, I want to take him shopping!"
Broken out of the haze born of her lover calling what they were doing 'right', Misato frowned at her female charge. "I just took him to plenty of stores!"
"For clothes! I want to take him to other places so that I can show him other types of music, shows and that sort of thing. You know, get him out and about so he can check out the other stuff in life. It's only fair, and I do want to get this guy to have stuff to show off."
"But we came to help Ayanami ask him for something!" Touji protested.
That set off a frown from the redhead. "What would she want from him?!"
"I'll let her ask him herself. Go on Ayanami!"
Nodding slightly, Rei stepped up to the transformed boy and looked him steadily in the eye. "Ikari-kun, I would ask for your assistance."
"Uh... sure," Shinji stammered, "What do you need?"
"I wish for you to teach me how to cook."
"You want me to teach you?"
"That is so. Until recently, such activities have seemed... useless, but I have decided that it is time to expand my skills in that area."
"You have?"
"My grades in the subject are not... acceptable, and I have recieved complaints on my cooking."
"Well..," he told her as he rubbed the back of his head, "I guess if you need it, I could help. When would you want to start?"
"I am available at any time."
Both Misato and Asuka scowled at that, but only the redhead spoke. "He doesn't have the time right now. I have to take him out so we can spend some time together."
"Does that mean that you wish to have a private time with him?"
"Yes! And while we're out, I can make sure that we can get him some stuff that isn't so... depressing, and help him the best that I can!"
"He has agreed to assist me in learning home economics."
"I can help!" Hikari piped up and wilted a bit as her friend glared at her. "I do have good grades in that class, and I like to cook. But I can help pick out music, and stuff like that."
"Still, I'm sure that Shinji's tired right now," Misato put in, "After all he had a busy and exhausting day."
"Cooking isn't that hard... and I know that he likes to listen to music..."
The other three females stared at the class representitive and she ducked her head under the combined look.
'I just wanted to help Shinji out a bit,' the freckled girl thought to herself, 'He has that cute lost look on his face... But it's like Misato wants to keep him here for some reason...'
'Just great..,' the major thought with a frown, 'I've finally found a guy who cares about me and not just my body, and now a bunch of girls want to spend time with him. I know I shouldn't worry, but Asuka's so insistant on this, and for Rei to ask something like that...'
'It seems that pilot Sohryu wishes to take Ikari-kun out,' the blue haired Eva pilot thought, 'The Major wishes to keep him here, and the class representitive is offering to help when her friend might disagree. Odd...'
'I don't believe this!' the redhead mentally growled, 'I finally get my chance to be with Shinji, and not only the doll, but Misato wants him to do what they want! Even my own friend's offered to do something to help!'
In an attempt to be concilitory, Shinji put on the best smile that he could manage. "You know... It wouldn't be a bother to help Rei to learn to cook. And I could use some new music, so that wouldn't be too bad... Besides, I'd need to shop for food for the lessons anyway, and I'm sure that we'd come up with a good meal that would make everybody happy. Okay?"
The response that he got came in the form of looks from the four females that said that the words were not something that they were totally pleased with.
So he slumped and stifiled a groan while:
