"Red alert ! Red alert ! Scramble all veritech fighters ! This is not a drill ! I repeat, this is not a drill !" Captain Hayes' voice was heard all over the Macross airbase "The SDF-1 is under attack ! All squadrons must launch and engage the enemy !"
Soon, the scream of dozens of reactors filled the air. Mechanics ran all over the place to load the planes with combat ordnance. Ranma could see that captain Fokker and his Skull squadron were already in the thick of battle. You could also hear the destroids' weapons firing non-stop at the swarm of obviously alien fighters.
While missiles were loaded on his veritech, Ranma couldn't keep himself from wondering if enlisting had been a good idea after all.
Life in Nerima had become unbearable. The various fiancees and rivals wouldn't leave him alone. He had finally exploded and the result wasn't pretty. The worst thing in his opinion is that they didn't learn from the severe beatdown they took. No, they said he was just upset and now that he's calmed down, everything was back to normal again. That's when he understood that whatever he did, no one would let him live in peace.
One morning, he was simply gone. After seeing a commercial on TV, he enlisted in the first Robotech Defense Force base he could find. If they came after him now that he was a UN soldier, they would have to go through gun-toting and trigger-happy marines. If they were that stupid, it wouldn't a big loss in his opinion.
To his surprise, he was sent to flight school. He supposed he would end in the marines with his martial arts training but he was selected for veritech piloting, despite his spotty schooling. Tests had shown he was a natural for handling the transformable fighters.
"All clear ! Good luck, sir !" The mechanics had finished loading his bird. After an accelerated combat flight check, Ranma chose a clear runway and went into full throttle. The VF-1A's engines roared into life, boosted by its afterburners "Red three to SDF-1, I'm a little late for the party. Where is the rest of Red wing ?"
Captain Hayes' face appeared on his comscreen "Red three. Launch immediately and join Red wing..."
