That is until someone decided to make the same comment they had for the past... actually, he'd lost count of how many times he'd been doing this.
"So, are we there yet?"
"That sure doesn't look like the Kyoto skyline to me!"
“And there she goes again,” another female’s voice spoke up. “Uh, you two know the drill.”
“Come on fox boy. I’ll take the left arm, you got the right, and use something to tie her feet would you? She kicked me in the legs the last time.”
The two males of the group, Ranma Saotome and Kurama just sighed and held the irate Misao Makimashi while Gina Diggers looked down at the small device in her hand to see why it was smoking... again. It seemed they were stuck here till Gina could find some replacement parts.
As she checked to see what fuses had blown or wires had melted this time, Gina could only feel worse and worse for every insult the 'weasel girl' tossed her way along with a few promises to rearrange her molecules. Although personally Gina didn't think Misao had enough grasp of science to realize what that was yet; she had only been with them for three weeks after all.
Only three weeks? Geeze, it feels like I've been doing this for years, Gina thought to herself. Actually, she had been, two of them according to her watch. She had been doing this so long that it almost felt like a way of life.
This whole mess was all her fault. It had all started back in her lab when she was working on her latest invention. To put it simply, Gina had been trying to come up with a teleportation device that would allow her to travel to places like Jade from Earth without magic, and not get fried in the process like organic matter did whenever it was put into hyperspace. It took her two months to come up with what she needed, or what she thought she needed anyway.
At first, Gina had actually thought her dimensional gate generator worked. The first time she used it she landed in some ancient looking world with dragons and the whole mystical shebang. However when she found herself unable to access hyperspace storage and everyone around was calling the world Kryyn, Gina started to realize something was REALLY wrong.
Hitting the return home command ended up bringing Gina back to Earth... it just wasn't the one she originally lived on. That's how her adventure all started, going from world to world, dimension to dimension, hell sometimes she would even end up dozens or even hundreds of years off course.
With a sad expression, Gina looked back up to the three other travelers as Misao finally let her rage calm down.
The first of the group was Ranma Saotome, the gender changing martial artist. So far he was the one who had been with her the longest, even counting some of the traveling companions they had lost along the way.
Ranma had accidentally joined Gina in her little search during the middle of her second month of wandering. Somehow, no matter where Gina landed, it always seemed to be right in the middle of the most chaotic places on the planet; and she had learned that Ranma Saotome was pretty much the male personification of that word.
Although she had met him while getting some replacement parts for her controller, Ranma's involvement in this adventure was completely by accident. All in all Gina thought Ranma had taken the situation pretty well considering he was literally thrown, or malleted, into it. He had actually fallen on her half a second after she activated the portal in the back of an abandoned lot and they both ended up being knocked in.
As a matter of fact, Gina was a little grateful Ranma and her had crossed paths. More than once the younger boy had ended up saving her life during her travels and... as much as she was ashamed to admit it, Gina didn't think that she could go on without him. Ranma's almost impossible to deter optimism had always got her going again whenever she was just ready to give up. Meeting him was quite possibly the one thing she thought of as worthwhile that came about during this whole trip.
Then there was Kurama, the deceptively young redheaded boy with the long hair. He had been with Gina and Ranma going on nine months now, and had more than proven his worth. Kurama was a master tactician, surpassing Ranma when it came to battle striates, or any strategy really, and easily matched Gina's own abilities of being able to deceiver new and strange languages. A sort of jack-of-all-trades that usually led the way when dealing with a new culture thanks to the 300 years experience of manipulation he had under his belt.
Kurama's reasons for accompanying their group were more of his own choice than any strange act of fate. When Gina and her group had first landed in his dimension, he and the local super heroes had shown up to check things out. After a bit of beating each other senseless Gina finally got everyone to calm down and talked things out.
Later, after they had acquired the supplies Kurama had asked to accompany them. His human mother had passed away in the recent weeks thanks to some disease that he was never clear on, so he had no reason to stay really. At first Gina had just thought they would drop them off on the next world, and the offer was still open for him to take, but until he decided to leave he was a member of the team.
Then there was Misao, like Ranma and a few others that had either decided to settle down or... passed on, her involvement in the group was completely by accident. Gina's gate device had overloaded because of a few 'modifications' that Washu had made to it the stop before they hit Kyoto, and sucked everyone in the surrounding area in. Which included the ninja when she was outside their room in the Aoyia to tell them breakfast was being made.
Needless to say, she had NOT been pleased. Then after Gina told her there was no way to actually track a gate's destination to make another one to go back home to... well the insane rage lasted for about a week, until there was two more weeks of intense depression, and thanks to Kurama's efforts she was now just plain mad whenever a jump didn't end up getting her back home.
All the rest of the group had actually become pretty protective of Misao. She was the youngest member of the group, and although she was decades ahead of Gina’s physical prowess, she was still centuries behind the other two in both fighting ability and experience. But it was nice to have another girl around from time to time at least.
Seeing that all they would need to do was fix some of the controller’s wiring. Gina took a look through her Gina-scope to see what their latest stop over looked like.
