A Cat's Yarn - Golden Destinies: Bastet Reflects [Episode 87000]

by Red Priest of the 17th Order

The Egyptian Goddess Bastet, (though known to many simply as ‘Bast’) was doing her best to keep a straight face as she watched the goings-on on her 72’ Sony HDTV Flat Plasma Screen, (only $750,000).

Yeah, it was a little overkill, but the thing had MUCH better reception than the Scrying pools they used to use for watching.

Bringing a claw to her face, Bast scratched her chin as she considered all that had been done that lead up to this. It just started off with Bast sitting back, relaxing, and watching over one of her favorite universes. However, Bastet was getting a little impatient with ‘story development’, and decided to take a little peek down the road...

...And she did not like what she saw.

What was handed to the Diggers was, simply put, absolute destruction. That wererat bastard Gothwrain was going to cause a lot of trouble, enough which would resurrect the power of an older enemy, and, in turn, bring the destruction of the Diggers. Well, not so much the Diggers, per se, but to the one Bastet was really looking out for.

Britanny Elin Diggers.

Bastet had already pulled a lot of strings behind the curtain to make sure that the werecheetah grew up happy and healthy. After all, she was more-or-less the last true werecheetah, (Bastet didn’t count Raphiel, as he was really a golem and Brianna was only half a werecheetah) and so it would be up to Britanny and her significant other to make sure that the race continued.

And so, the universe went on, Bastet watching it’s progress, occasionally taking peeks into the future to see if there was anything she could help out with. It had helped before, as it was how Bastet was able to plan for Archon to bring the Kryn prince back from the dead after that bastard Rio had killed him. And even before then, Bastet had kept an eye out for Britanny. “Of course, had I peeked forward after the wedding, I might have saved her from the embarrassment of that damned collar.”

Shrugging her shoulders, Bastet knew there was no use crying over spilt milk. There were far more important things to deal with at the moment. Specifically, the werecheetah’s survival.

It’s not as if Bastet hadn’t tried to come up with all sorts of scenarios from that point on up to where Britanny would be killed. But everything, no matter what... Fate was stacked against the werecheetah due to the way things were now. If she were to survive, it would be up to herself; she’d need more mental discipline and physical endurance.

And there was no way in the heavens that Britanny could build up herself in time for when the disaster would strike.

Though it was a risky maneuver, Bastet knew it needed to be done. True, the rest of the pantheon would frown down upon it, but Bastet didn’t care. She needed to turn back the clock and get Britanny a good trainer form the get-go.

The question at that point was, just who?

Bastet got her answer when her senses started alarming her to the fact that someone had just destroyed a shrine of hers. When she had gone to investigate, Bastet found that it was none-other than Ranma ‘Wonderboy’ Saotome. Yes, quite the lucky find indeed.

One had to either be brain-dead, hiding under a rock for the past century, or semi-retarded to not have at least heard the name ‘Ranma Saotome’. Ever since Eris, Goddess of Discord and Chaos had been proclaiming that the ‘chosen one’ had been born, certain gods and goddesses would look in on the pig-tailed wonder from time-to-time, Bast herself especially since he was put through and survived the Neko-Ken.

With the chance she had, Bast just had to jump on it. And as Bast had heard, he had been more than agreeable to talk with. She told him her troubles, she acted a little cute, got him to blush a bit, and off he went to protect the little werecheetah.

And of course, the fact that he became a werecat himself, and a rather nice and unique one at that had been a most definite plus in the goddess’s eyes.

Of course, now Bast was kicking herself for not seeing this before, but what some mortal had easily pointed out.

Ranma was now a unique species; and he was now to be the protector of the child of a now-unique species. Bastet was so wrapped up about making sure Britanny was all right and would have kids, that she never even thought about poor Ranma.

“I all but robbed him of his future, (not that that’s necessarily a bad thing) and I’ve so-far, offered him nothing in return but the title as my avatar,” Bastet mumbled to herself, her arms crossed under her chest. She frowned a little at her own selfishness. “Can’t have that. No, I can’t have that at all. Ranma deserves a little something.”

And that is when Bast came to a decision...

“That’s it! I’m going to find him a woman!”

(------)

“ACHOO!!!”

Blinking his eyes once, twice, M took off his glasses and started to wipe the mucous off of them with a handkerchief from his jacket pocket. “God bless you.”

Sniffling a bit, Ranma mumbled, “Sorry about that.”
