"We're saved!" seconded Yuka as the plumes of dust began moving in their direction.
"We're... saved?!" said Sayuri as the vehicles proved to be big oomphing vehicles with guns bristling from the top and sides and a skull-like front area.
Several figures got out of the vehicle, and Sayuri's doubts experienced a growth spurt.
They were also wearing armor that had skull-face markings and numbers.
One of them said something in a foreign language.
"Oh! That's English! I know English! This'll be okay," Akane assured her friends. "(Nice to meet you. My name is Akane Tendo and we be fun girls.)"
"(Careful, sir. They might be D-Bees or mages.)"
"(I know that, Corporal. That one there looks about ready to throw out tentacles and fangs.)"
"Eh?" Akane asked, actually following most of that and realizing that the one referred to as 'sir' had a woman's voice. "(No no. Japanese we is. Experiment in lab visit we, big boomie, end up here.)"
"(Sir, there was a pre-Rifts empire of Japan, allied with the United States of that time.)"
"(Fine,)" said the officer. "(Use the electro-shackles, that might keep them from using a spell or psychic power if they're not what they appear to be. If they're legit, best they be carried into the Burbs before it gets dark. We still don't know where that one patrol went.)"
One of the girls who didn't speak English saw the bondage devices coming out, screamed, and turned to run.
Before the horrified eyes of the others, one of the soldiers casually shot her in the back. One moment she was there, the next moment there were pieces of her coming down.
"(Let them know if they cooperate, they'll live,)" the officer told Akane.
Akane stammered a bit at the casual violence but relayed the message in Japanese. She was used to one level of casual violence, that baka fiance of hers certainly attracted that quality, but this was a whole order different.
As soon as the cuffs went on, the soldiers motioned them towards the back of the vehicle.
"(Uhm, excuse me, one of our number is over there in those ruins,)" said Akane with a helpful point.
"(Gunderman?)" The officer asked.
"(Yes sir,)" responded one of the armored soldiers as he pointed some thick barrell at the ruins. A flash of light and Akane saw brick melting under the blast. She didn't realize she was screaming until after an armored fist laid open her face. Then everything went dark.
"Oooh, man, Tomboy must be working out," said Ranma as he came too. Man it was hot. It was-
Ranma gaped. He'd fallen into some kind of root cellar, above him though was a hole and an inferno.
Breaking through a crawlspace, he inched his way out of there and watched his lair of a few minutes previous get burned.
While looking for Akane he found pieces of dead girl.
No sign of P-chan. No telling where anything else had gone.
